Hope you had a great weekend and are ready to hit this week hard!
Over the last several months I have noticed a trend....
And I have seen it happen twice just yesterday....
Ready for it?
Small business putting a paper sign on their window that says: Not open due to short staffing....
Some are closed for a day....
Others are closed for a week....
"Coach- why would you talk negatively about small business?"
Look, I spent many years running my own performance training shops....
I know what it takes to run a business.....
And I have watched many businesses today lose the war to bad service, not going the extra mile, and not becoming the best possible resource/ experience they can be... and that is unacceptable and leaves you no chance at winning....
But here is the thing....
Winning always starts at the top....
Bad staff, inconsistent staff = Bad Hiring.
Lazy staff, staff that does not do the little things = Bad Hiring & Not Fast Enough Firing.
A Team that stays bad for a period of time = A Leader Who Has A Scarcity Mindset around: I spend so much time training them... OR, it is so hard to find people that want to work...
All lies...
There are good people out there...
It always comes down to this....
Leaders have to lead.
Whether it be a small business, or a family, or a team, or a big business....
Leaders have to lead.
Accept nothing but excellence and do not talk yourself down from that...
If somebody does not perform, get somebody new.
If you are not performing as a leader, have a leadership baptism and go back to doing the things you did when you were successful- you probably stopped doing them...
And most of all, adopt this mindset: WHATEVER IT TAKES.
You bet your ass if those businesses with those signs in the window had to fight to survive, the owner would be there, alone, doing whatever it takes...
The problem I see today is two fold...
1. We are too comfortable here (especially in America)....
2. We do not like discomfort....
Well, one of my go-to-lines is this: PAIN LEADS TO GROWTH...
So if all you want is comfort, you can not have growth.
Growth comes from challenge...
It comes from doing things you do not want to do because they must get done....
So you must stretch yourself...
Do more than you usually do...
Think bigger than you usually think...
BELIEVE in something that others may think is crazy....
But if all people want to do today is sit home, looking at their battery charge rectangle scrolling the internet all day, we have not shot at greatness....
We have a greater chance of seeing more and more paper signs in the window...
This message today is meant to be a BATTLE CRY to all those who can make a change and make things happen....
Get off your ass immediately and demand excellence from all that are around you...
YOU set the tone.
YOU set the pace.
YOU set the tempo.
YOU will determine success of failure.
YOU will determine what you tolerate.
And if you tolerate bullshit- that is what you will get...
More and more and more of it.
If you expect excellence, yes, some will let you down, but many will rise and you will soon find yourself surrounded by Champions.
Let's go after it today...
Let's chase excellence... HARD.
