Just got back from spending the day in South Florida....
What I love about flying is that I get to sit back, relax, and read...
My life lately has been very busy traveling, coaching, and speaking...
It has been awesome..
But when I have some down time, I love to fill it with reading, watching, and just listening...
Everything from personal development, to the mini-series Billions on Showtime, to just walking around the neighborhood listening to the sounds of nature.... and real life...
One of the key facts I have learned through the years is that when we are on the run, sometimes its a blessing and sometimes a curse....
When we are busy, sometimes we are too busy to think (which for many of us is a not so bad thing).....
But when we are busy... we also don't spend the time thinking about what we need to be thinking about, like are we focused on our "purpose, direction"?...
Are we spending our time right? on the right things? on the right people?
Now, those are the good things to be thinking about.....
In one of the books I am reading on mental performance, the author talks about how our thoughts though can also be the cause of many of our physical symptoms of stress, anxiety, fear, doubt, and hesitation...
When we grab onto a thought, and attach emotion to it, that is when that thought can own us...
We are supercharging what should just be a "thought" and allowing it to be emotionally and physically draining and harmful....
Example:
You have a big meeting or game coming up.....
You start to think about the magnitude of it....
You start to think about the question, "What if I do bad?"....
You begin to feel your body tighten up... your heart rate elevate....shortness of breath....
Do you see how a simple meeting led to a thought, which lead to a physical reaction?
Rather, if we let our thoughts pass like trains at Grand Central Station... we can just watch it go by... and we can decide which train to get on, and when to get off...
We are in control of that....
We can not forget that....
When you attach, grab-on, and hold on to that thought for life...
That is when you will become emotionally fatigued and owned by the thought...
Let it go.
Let it pass.
Realize a thought is a thought....
There is no physical or emotional response unless you decide to grab on...
