So, some days on the farm I spend 90-minutes to 2 hours on a tractor.....
Cutting grass. Moving stuff- you know, typical farm things.
As I was getting some work done yesterday, I had a realization that needed to be discussed.
That realization is around training and programming of your mind to see what it is that you want.
To train your mind to see opportunities.
To train your mind to see only forward movement.
Again, for some this may seem extreme, but, there are too many people trying to suck the life out of you, suck the vision out of you, and kill your opportunistic mindset- don't make one of those people be you.
So, here is how we do it....
I called it FLIPPING.
A technique that takes an input and "flips it" if it does not meet and align with the outcomes you desire....
In order to FLIP effectively, you must be aware of what you are thinking, what you are saying, what you are hearing, and who/ what is around you or ON giving you those inputs....
You MUST have a zero tolerance policy for negative inputs.
If one happens to slip through on you- that is when you deploy the FLIP strategy.
Example: You have a business idea- you are at lunch speaking about it- you know in your gut it has legs- it is shot down and not embraced by those you are dining with....
Then, you hit the FLIP....
You in "real-time" tell yourself that it will work... it will be a success... and you visualize your next immediate step and action item to make it real.
Now, this does not mean negate advice....
But, it does mean you negate opinions that are simply that, opinions.
Especially when you have a gut instinct that validates your vision.
A year or so ago, I was coaching a titan in Private Equity.
He had a gut instinct and went against data points and his teams advisory.
He did a deal that was totally misunderstood- until it wasn't.
That deal ended up being a very, very fruitful deal that did not show itself that way until 6-12 months down the road.
He was misunderstood.
His thinking was misunderstood.
His gut was not.
He FLIPPED their words, ideas, data points, and moved it all into his favor and took action because he trusted himself.
You can do the same.
Stick to your guts and your guns :)
Be ready to FLIP when you must- it will keep you in alignment and living in a low resistance climate.
