Hi Team...

For most of my career, I worked under legendary Yankees manager, Joe Torre.

I was always fascinated by him and to work alongside him and learn from him on how to lead and manage people was truly a blessing...

Today, I wanted to share a few of those key lessons with you.... and I also want to share something that drives me crazy...

That something is Careless Leadership.

Before I share the lessons of The Godfather, Joe Torre, I wanted to talk about what Careless Leadership is....

It is simply when a Leader throws a temper tantrum...

The leader loses control of self.....

The leader condemns his people publicly....

The leader shows the team that they are not in a winning mindset.....

The leader starts blaming others....

I bring this up because it is important to realize that people are watching...

Your people are watching.

Now, can a leader have an edge?- yup.

Can a leader strategically go public and challenge somebody or a team- yup.

But when it is simply to take frustration from self and apply it to somebody else- that is where the buck must stop. (or, the bucks will stop because you will not have a team).

Back to the skipper, Joe Torre.

He was calm.....He knew that in sport, like in life and business- you can not and will not win every game or day. Embrace it- but never let your team separate or get down on themselves because of a loss...

He had a true pulse of his team.... He know when his players were tired, frustrated, or when they were dealing with something bigger than baseball. That was his gift. He would quietly call them into his office, sit down, and just talk. Talk with a big heart, lots of compassion, and would always conclude with not advice, but wisdom.

He was always people first... He was the kind of person that realized if your people were feeling good, the chances of them going good went way up. Joe Torre has a gift of words and a gift of touch. He knew just when to say the right thing and he would put his arm around you, give you a hug, or just give you a tap to let you know: "I am here for you".

Now, that is leadership.

That is Consistent Leadership.

He was not a slouch or a rollover manager- but the kind that always wanted to make you better.

We can all learn something here.

Go out and make people better today.

One conversation.

One interaction.

At. A. Time.

Let's go!

Your Coach,
