This morning I was thinking about the word: LAZY.
By definition, the word means: Unwilling to work or use energy.
Now, we all know plenty of people who suffer from the disease of laziness.
But, I wanted to point out that even high performing achievers can also suffer from this....
It happens most when they are fatigued, tired, and even on the cusp of burnout...
They start putting things off....
They start becoming "less productive"....
And as a result, they get even more frustrated because their growth, elevation, and ability to do more is starting to come to a halt.
This is what high performer laziness looks like...
They are still "doing" just not "producing" like they would like.....
But, today, I wanted to talk about what is actually happening during this period...
You are recovering.
Your body and mind are regulating themselves and since you refuse to stop or take time off, you are being stopped and are in fact taking time off through procrastination.
This may seem a bit odd or even confusing, but it is true.
When I coach high performers and they say their productivity is down, and they are feeling lazy, the first thing we do is take time off.
We do something different.
We quit the habits and routines we are doing temporarily in exchange for others that are more fun based, creativity based, and recreationally based.
We do this for a short period of time and it is amazing how the flame starts to burn again and the feeling of laziness retreats.
I write this to you because here we are in August... mid August.
Some of you have been going hard- I caution you to take a week to recover- truly recover.
Recover so you can hit the last quarter and a half of the year hard.
The only way you can do that though is by taking a break and really getting clear on what it is you want to do, achieve, and build.
You can not take a stale mindset into a competitive period.
It will not work and you will be disappointed- and laziness will feel like it has crept back in.
Let's play to win here.
Avoid laziness- by shaking it up.
Double down on fun based, creativity based, and recreationally based activities.
Watch things change for you as this is prescription for getting the mind good and ready for what is next!
