Do you remember when you were a kid and when you did something good, you got rewarded?
How good did that reward feel?
I mean the applause, the validation, the pride of pleasing somebody, and finally, the reward itself.
Didn't that feel good?
And what did it do? It inspired you to do more good.
And more good- led to more rewards.
More rewards were a symbol of your growth!
You were growing as a result of your daily actions and you were rewarded for your great works....
Well, that is how the Merit System works.
You are rewarded for your great works.
**Unfortunately, today many are rewarding any kind of works... good works, bad works, so-so works... it does not matter- just give me the damn reward...
And in some instances, for many, especially in business, people are grabbing those undeserved rewards as a result of being liked, favored, or a result of kissing the right asses...
But here is the deal, for YOU to grow big and strong, happy and proud of your work, you must activate the Merit System again in your life.
Being the man the wrote the book on Habit change and reform, this system still works great to get an individual to achieve something bigger than they could without it...
Say you are looking to have your best year financially- you want to make a certain number... $500k....
Well, what are you attaching to that victory right from the start?
When I reach $500k, I am booking the trip-of-a-lifetime to ________________.
I will fly first class there, stay in a suite, and my wife and I will do a daily excursion.
Do you see how that example could get your really excited?
The truth is this... you only get the trip if you do the deed. You must do the work.
This is a prize for winning.
How about weight-loss? Losing those 20lbs. and keeping them off for a period of time? What is the reward? Maybe it is an active trip you always wanted to do- or maybe you are a golfer that always wanted to play Pebble Beach..
Whatever it is- you get the point.
For those who lead teams, you can do the same thing.
Put the "reward" system back in play for yourself and see how things begin to change.
For many, days and goals all start looking the same because there is no fun wrapped around them.... there is no reward ATTACHED to great work.
Well, today, I want you to think about how you will reward yourself for your great work.
Use that as a motivation to get stuff done.
Use that REWARD as a tool to drive victory.
When you can do that, you can really start winning but most importantly, enjoying your wins and life in a very special, unforgettable way.
It changes everything.
