Hey Team!
Success! One of my favorite words...
Along with "winning" and "achievement"...
When you are bred in sports culture, these words get you fired up...
But the word "success"... now that is a special word...
That word has been beaten into us...
Unfortunately, it has been left for us to define....
And by unfortunately, I simply mean we have not been given a formal definition, so many have been left to their own devices to try to figure out what this word even means outside of lavish homes and sports cars... with some private aviation mixed in....
What I realized along my road is that even those who have those "things"... if they fail to define the word, "success", they will spend the rest of their years in acquisition mode, never really feeling true, deep down fulfillment...
As a speaker, writer, and coach... I realized words are very powerful...
But without a clear definition and "meaning".. they can also be just "words"....
I work to define everything... and that definition creates a clear mission, vision, and goal... which becomes the baseline needed to achieve anything...
So this morning I was doing my daily reading and was digging into a sports bible.. known as Coach Wooden's Pyramid of Success....
And by bible.. I mean it has all of the answers to achieving success via true fulfillment...
In a time when success has really been defined by self-comparison to "others" who appear to be "successful" through the lens we have been taught to see it... we now struggle to identify its meaning to "us" as participants in our own game of life...
"Always learn from other people... but never compare because our position in relation to others is our of control....focus solely on doing your best... that is success"
"If we refrain from comparing ourselves to others and stay off other people's ladders of success, we will have peace of mind. If we put in our best efforts in all we do, we can consider ourselves successful.."
Simple. Powerful statements that are focused on the self and not the self in relation to others.
Owning your thoughts. Owning your emotions. Being proud of what you bring to all that you do. Working ferociously to be your best at what you apply yourself to should be your daily focus.
I have found if you have time to spend on social media (in excess), you have made time for comparison, therefore making time for stress, anxiety, and the potential devaluing of yourself.
Stay true to you.
"You are the only one who knows whether you have won."
