Hey Team...

Last night I was sitting with my father-in-law and we had a great talk I wanted to share...

I think you can relate....

Not only is he family, but he is an Award Winning Hollywood Make-Up Artist...

An Artist....

I emphasize artist, because I believe that people that excel in sports, business, entertainment, or really any category are Artists...

Entrepreneurs are Artists...

Because, to be an Artist, you must see what others do not...

You must see something that does not exist... A Vision...then create it...

You can only do that with instincts, gut, and a creative sense....

In a time when every Leadership Guru is talking about planning, strategy, and basically drawing out your entire business/ life plan....

Artists teach us that our greatest work is often left to ORGANIC, instinctual, feel and creation.....

Rather than a Mechanical Approach...

Now, do you have to be proficient in what it is you do? YUP.

You have to have skills.... but, in order to do your best work, it often times comes down to trust.

Trusting your vision.

Trusting your gut.

Trusting that you will get it done when it needs to be done.

He told me a story last night, when he was working on Dick Tracy, production was coming down to the wire. He wished he had more time so the work could possibly be better.

Not sure if they would get all the sculpted pieces done in time, he was told by the Director, "If you had anymore time, you would of screwed it up", referring to working under a "time crunch".....

That went on to be Oscar Winning Work!

You see, you can be great even with heavy doubts!

How do you work?

Do you work better with a lot of time?

Or, have you seen some of your best work "under the gun"?

I know for me, the closer to the deadline, the better I get.....

I have never been a planner....

Never been an over forecaster....

And the times I have tried, well, I have felt gross... stuck.. and handcuffed....

So, as we head towards 2020... my planning is simple: I write a list of what I want to achieve next year in the categories of Health & Fitness, Business, and Relationships (this was yesterdays blog)..

Then, I go do it.

Yup. That is it.

It is really the only thing that works.

Do I have the tendency to want to be perfect? Yes, I do.

Do I have moments where I question myself? Yes, I do.

Do I sometimes question my ability? Yes, I do.

But, then I Coach myself out of it by reminding myself of all the good things I have done in the past in sports, business, life, and for all the people I work with....

I go back to trusting my gut-- it is an amazing thing.

Now, you always have to trust yours.

Stay in your lane... and remember: Always favor the Organics over the Mechanics....

Your best work sits ahead of you....

Let's GO!
