Hi Team....

I was thinking this morning about personality...

How does personality play a role in our life results and overall performance?

Well- it plays a major role.

Let's say you are somebody who is classified as laid back, or, you roll with the punches and go with the flow.

Somebody like this will typically experience less pressure, less stress, and less anxiousness than somebody who is a more classic, high-strung, a-type personality.

Understanding our personality strengths and weaknesses is essential.

We can save ourselves so much time and energy once we know "who" we are and how our "who" plays into our results...

Personality can be broken down into 5-classic traits/ groupings as based on The Big 5 Model of Personality developed in the 1980s.

This model is a grouping/ pairing of personality traits.

It says there are 5-factors or groupings of personality:

It is important you know yours- so this way, you understand how you function and operate in certain situations and again, you know your tendencies.

Knowing your tendencies will allow you to:

  • know what you need to work on...
  • know what help you need...
  • know what teammates you need to be most effective...
  • know what is prime work for you and what is to be delegated...
  • know how you will be in one situation vs. another...

This level of introspection and knowledge of self is what can allow you to truly blossom as a leader, entrepreneur, team manager, or team member...

It also allows you to say to yourself- "I know why I am responding like this- let me choose another direction here, or, another way to handle this."

In my years of coaching people, I have always differentiated for them between coaching and therapy....

Coaching is very solution oriented.

It is about your next action step.

It is about understanding what got you here- while developing a plan that will get you there.

This process takes place week over week through educational immersion- (like this newsletter)- and through month over month coaching which connects all the dots!

Over time- the result is greater awareness, openness, self-understanding, and a solid plan that moves you forward and through what were you past obstacles.

Understanding your personality is essential...

Personally- I tend to take on a lot because it makes me feel like I am moving forward, growing, and never stepping backwards...

The risk: Fatigue, frustration, and a high demand of self that often can not be reached in the time-tables I have constructed ( because they are totally unrealistic)....

As a result, I have to always remind myself of the following:

  • I am playing the long-game....
  • I am the type of player that wins over time...
  • Slow and steady....
  • Do not get too high, do not get too low...
  • Attack the bullseye, attack the process...
  • It is your process when executed to perfection with intense consistency that will allow you to obtain the results you desire (over-time)
  • Delayed gratification all the time.
  • Do the work (daily)

This is my own personal language and self-talk I wanted to share with you...

Now, you must develop your own!

Got it!

Let's go.

Know thyself.
