I have been realizing lately how hard it is for many people to "Break Through"...
Which, is the first part of having an actual BREAK-THROUGH and avoiding the dreaded BREAK-DOWN...
I wanted to share a perspective with you...
Drill: Take out a piece of paper and draw a line down the middle of the page...
On the right side of the line, I want you to list/ draw all your wants and desires (family/ relationships, finances, physical body, career/ business, religion/spirituality, sporting outcomes) and your overall definition of success on that right side....
Next...
I want you to on the left side of the line, using number 1-10, (1 being very far away, 10 being as close as possible) label "how far you are from achieving" each of those outcomes...
The reason I want you to use the number system is so you can take an uninhibited inventory of where you are "Really At" in your mind...
If you wrote a 1 next to something.. that shows you just how far away you are from that particular goal.. "in your own mind"... which is the only perspective that matters...
I want you to see that line on the paper as THE WALL between where you are... and where you want to be...
That Wall is the reason for all your angst, anxiety, stress, dismay, frustration, and fury..
All you need to do is break-through the wall.. and the life of your dream is yours...
Just break through the wall...
The magic question though is "HOW"... but the real question is actually "WHY"..
You see, some of those "goals" you listed may not really be as important to you as you think..
They are there because you got married to them years ago... and could not let them go...
Or.. they are there because you feel they are "supposed" to be there...
So, the first step to "breaking through" is to understand WHY you really want something..
In coaching people for many years, I have found that many people do not want what they say... or think they want...
They are craving a feeling or an emotion that they believe that "thing" will provide them...
Then.. they get it... and still feel that desire/ emptiness because that "thing" did not answer the greater question of WHY...
Now, take a good look at your list.. and start to X-off things that may not be relevant for the actual reason you think they are relevant... and keep all those "truly important capstones" that should be there...
What you will find is, by eliminating even a few "things" on the right, you now have more clarity and space to attack the truly important things on the right... and, you may even feel closer to them.. allowing you to adjust your numbers...
This is a simple exercise about WHY and Relevance...
As for the wall... the way through the wall comes from a true conviction and understanding the WHY of what you are wanting to achieve, build, and create...
Example... "I want to make 1-million dollars per year" .. you put a number 3 next to that showing you are quite far away... you then take a look at that number and realize to live the life you want to live for you and your family.. you really only need 500k per year... now.. you make the adjustment in your number.. going from 3 to 8.. you just closed the gap... meaning, you started to penetrate the wall.. by just shifting your values and having a realization of what you really WANT & NEED...
Clarity allows you to push through the wall.
Every diet fails with extreme measures...
They are unsustainable.. when there is not clarity as to they body you are looking to create.. the biomarkers you are looking to achieve... and WHY you are looking to improve both...
Many of my clients who are in their 60s.. get laser focused because they have their first grandchild... and they really want to be there to share life with that child... so boom.. magically their bodies change, their habits improve, and they break through the wall that has "been there" for so many years...
Breaking through the wall requires understanding what is on both sides of it, WHY, and understanding the person (YOU) trying to break through that wall...
