Hey Team!

As you know, most mornings I write my blog from a coffee shop most mornings in Armonk, NY...

A small, charming town in Westchester County, NY.

What I love about my experience writing in the coffee shop is the diversity of the consumers..

From the middle aged lady taking "snap-shots" of herself for her Facebook/ Instagram (or maybe e-harmony) profile, to the aggressive business man drinking a vat of coffee before trying to dominate his lane...

The vibe is cool...

All the above is soundtracked to the voices of Sir Elton John and the King of Long Island, Billy Joel...

But today, I learned a valuable lesson...

LOOSEN UP... AND STOP TAKING YOURSELF SO SERIOUSLY...

This lesson came from the TYPE A +++ Gentleman sitting next to me that definitely achieved success at the cost of many other things in life...

Pounding his expresso, making one furious phone call after the next, showing his dominance the the person on the other end of the phone and to all those around him...

What is scary to me, is that there was a time in my life where I thought "that was the way"....

If you want to WIN, nothing else matters...

Relationships are secondary. Your personal life is secondary. Everything outside of goal is secondary...

What did I learn from trying that?

I got to meet Stress and Anxiety on a first name basis...

I also got to meet their cousin... BURN-OUT as well...

Scary.

I went from a young, high achieving freight-train to a derailed train...

Tired. Fatigued. No Ambition.

Absolute TOAST!

It sucked.

The scary part was I though I had a health condition...

Was I sick?

Nope.

Just tired and burnt out...

Both ends of the candle were burning for about 10 years... and then I ran out of wax...

The day is coming for the  gentleman in the coffee shop as well...

You can not hide from it... you can only delay it..

Burnout can only be delayed when you live your life totally out of balance...

I saw a very dark place... but I had to see it...

Because, I was forced to deploy all the tools I had... and learn many new ones that I have been able to share with the Clients and Organizations I work with... and it goes way beyond "meditation"....

So, as you hit the pavement each day to achieve #greatness.. make sure you are doing it in a healthy way...

Long, hard days are followed by shorter, health focused days.

High stress days are followed by personal recovery and pampering days with minimal high thought work....

Multiple days in a row of fatigue are met with a planned day off to rest and recover...

You get my point?

Balance your scales...

If you have to push through it here and there... I get it...

But make sure you are planning your rest & recovery...

Plan your high thought, high volume days....

Plan your easy days around the above....

I made all the excuses... and realized that pushing hard without rest for an extended period of time was the fastest way to LOSE and NOT WIN...

When you officially burn-out... you can not push through it... the WALL will stop you...

Pace yourself...

Focus on building from the inside out..

Own your schedule..

Own your vision...

Own your life..

That is what the best of the best do... they win over the long game....
