I wanted to talk to you today about something I have been coming across lately- and, something I have worked hard against....
That something is feeling anxious.
Again, another feeling we deal with as humans and even more so as high performance, high expectation people.
Today though, I want you to understand that anxiety is the equivalent of being over-excited as it relates to your sympathetic nervous system which is directly involved with your flight or fight response- in response to a threat.
Ready for this?
Back in the day, threats may have been animal attacks, being chased, etc.
Today, you may still have some of the above- but the threat is more likely to come from a car in front of you cutting you off or braking quickly, or, by your own creation.
That is the part of the stress formula I want to focus on today:
The threats we create for ourselves.
Over the last several months, many clients of mine have been dealing with anxiety.
These are tough people with tremendous ability and capacity....
But, they have fallen victim to self-induced pressure, trying to do too much at once, trying to do everything for everyone, and at the same time, getting it all done quickly, efficiently, and effectively.
Well, you can only do that for so long.
Until the dam breaks.
Look at anxiety as the building up of systemic pressure- as a result of the above- and finally, due to long term endurance and battling- the dam finally breaks and says "I need a break."
That is it.
Simply look at the feeling of anxiety as your body asking for a break.
It has given you so much through the years- that it just needs a break from the way you are currently doing things and have been doing things- (aka. working at full throttle)....
Many deal with anxiety longer than they need to because they over-ride their bodies "ask" and continue to push, grind, and hustle- not hearing or paying attention to the sensations of anxiety.
SO, Coach, how do I change and get over my anxiety?
You MUST do things differently.
You MUST think differently.
You MUST change your current operating system and reduce your load.
What happens to a bridge when the load is too heavy? It breaks.
What happens to a rubber band when it is stretched too far? It breaks.
What happens to a bone when it is met with too much force or pressure for too long? It breaks. (stress fracture)
What happens to the human heart when it is pushed too hard for too long? It breaks.
You see- this is what happens.
We break over time.
Anxiety is a stress fracture to your whole system (body, mind, soul).
Today, if you are feeling like this, I want you to make a change.
I need you to make a change.
Take a few minutes and create some space for yourself to think about and write down how you currently operate.
Then, I want you to build out your ideal day and ideal way of working.
Times of work, environment to work in, and how you want to work and use your time.
Last week, I was coaching an amazing client and we found that by doing this, we would get over 20hrs. per week back.
20hrs. to live.
20hrs. to enjoy life.
That is 80hrs. per month and over 900 per year.
It can save your life.
