You know its true. One of the greatest fears of most high performing CEOs, Executives, and Athletes is not being relevant.

For those who are on top... then fade into the sunset.. often times this is not an intentional act outside of the first few months post retirement.

It is easy to see. Some in order to maintain relevance buy the "super-car" that shows others they are "different"... others begin to rapidly invest in other Companies, join Boards, take broadcasting jobs, star on talk shows.. whatever it is.. it is most often driven by seeking relevance.

This blog was prompted by a conversation I had with a billionaire that I know and work with..

I asked him, "What is your greatest fear?"... he told me "Not being relevant in the business world and to my family... just slipping back into society after being a multi-decade renegade."

What an awesome answer. It is easy to see why he is what he is and why his mental state was what it was at this point in his life. He was driven by production and results on the outside..but internally it was relevancy.

Interesting enough.. here is a guy at the top of the "made-it" list.. and this is how he feels.. but if you check Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and all other social channels..isn't this really what most of us are chasing?

The only difference is most people we come across are not trying to STAY RELEVANT... they are trying to BECOME RELEVANT.

It is amazing what some people will do for relevancy...

Some will mortgage their house to improve their image to others, some will hire PR teams to showcase themselves differently than what/who they really are, and others will will build an "online-character" of themselves to create differentiation.. based on a fictional narrative.

What about becoming relevant for doing incredible work that can't be replicated? What about smashing the pavement, building your tribe, and providing to that tribe everyday the best that you can?

What if you were to build your case in the workplace as a fearless leader who has tremendous compassion, care, and empathy toward those that work for you, with you, and those who are about the same mission of building something great?

This is the fork in the road for me. I believe social media is a tool- but greatness is built in the real world.

Greatness is build by your daily interactions with people, showing high levels of passion, and delivering on your word while inspiring others. You want relevance.. give that a try.

Relevancy comes from within.. not the outside.. and certainty not based on what others think of you. Everybody is attracted to conviction, passion, and drive... along with high levels of motivation and inspiration... focusing on those deliverables will keep you relevant for a life time...

I mean think about it.. does anybody even remember what you posted yesterday about yourself? #TrainLikeAPro
