A Lesson from Andy Pettitte: What is your "Priority of Work"?

Hey Team...

My day is off like a rocket....

I show up at the coffee shop to do my AM writing and I am greeted by a great surprise-- as I go to pay for my drink, boom, the barista says: "Somebody got you a gift-card.."

My amazing clients are truly amazing.... an unexpected gift, and an instant boost to the day! Thanks Wendy! Simple things are big things!

Yesterday, I spoke to an awesome marketing Company in NYC and their high energy team at Madison Logic. 

The team was open, hungry, and ready to be Coached.

We talked about "How to be a Champion Leader"..... the steps and processes needed to achieve this status, and how individual performance is important, but team performance is where greatness happens....

Then, I drove home and had an amazing dinner with one of my former Yankee players and close friend, Andy Pettitte. I had not seen Andy in a while, and boom, we picked up right where we left off....

And when you talk with Andy, the intensity is high, the focus is strong, and he is infectiously passionate about baseball, life, and talking about competition and winning....

Which is what brings me to today.....

The topic is: WORK

Andy and I were talking about the difference between players today and players of yesterday...

In his mind, it comes down to too many distractions, social media hyper-focus, and a lack of true work ethic which forces you into some uncomfortable places....

It comes down to work, not the easy way.

It comes down to work, not what is always comfortable.

It comes down to work, not what everybody else is doing.

It comes down to work, focused, attentive work that is very objective focused.

Thats it.

In an era where people are more focused on building their personal brand, we have to be careful that we don't fall into the "Easy Way Out" trap.

Nothing is easy.

That does not mean it can't be fun-- but most things in life that are worth while are not easy.

Better body --> You must Train --> Not comfortable

Better mindset --> You must ReTrain Patterns --> Not comfortable

Better business --> You must FOCUS --> Not comfortable or easy (until you start getting results)

I shared with the team at the global marketing firm, Madison Logic, you must go from INTERESTED to COMMITTED.

A tag we use with athletes all the time. You can not be half pregnant. You must go and be ALL-IN.

And when you experience this feeling, over time, your confidence will build, your attitude will go from passive to aggressive, and the results in all you do with accelerate.

You will be less focused and less tolerant of the "energy draining activities and thoughts" because you are laser focused on something so much bigger than that and the drama.

You will be on a crusade to greatness.

When I speak to Companies and Organizations, I look at each person in the eye-- and put my passion and fire into them to bring out their inner Champion... with a desire to help them create that instant shift from INTERESTED to COMMITTED, helping them realize life is about being on the ATTACK, not waiting to be picked.

I hope you can take that lesson into your day today.

Make the decision.

Get out of your own way.

Rid yourself of that B.S. story you are telling yourself.

Let's go out and WIN.
