If you were asked the following question, how would you respond?
What type of Leader are you?
If you are like most, you would say you are a good Leader.
Those who have been doing it a bit longer, well, they would say they are great Leaders.
Or, maybe some would say they are frustrated Leaders.
Perhaps, you would say I am good but need to get better.
Those are the typical scenarios of Leadership most are living in day to day.
Here is another set of questions for you...
Do you need to be the CEO to be a great Leader?
Do you need year of training to be a great Leader?
Does your age matter?
The answer is NO.
We all need to work on our leadership skills day in and day out as life requires leadership and Leaders who posses a series of skills that make for great leadership outcomes.
Whether you are leading your kids who are home from school now...
Or, you are leading your remote workforce who is working remote for the first time..
You should first understand that Leadership is truly a skill that should be embraced for having a truly dynamic and adaptable nature..
It is like the old say, "What go you here, won't get you there."
"How you lead today, will not be how you should lead tomorrow."
Remember, we as Leaders must be dynamic and our people/ environments are never static. Everything is always changing... as should you be.
I wanted to give you a way to test your Leadership and a way for you to see what type of Leader you are.. ready?
1. Do your people listen to you intently?
2. Do the people you lead, manage, work with, or live with just come and confide in you voluntarily?
3. Are you seeing growth amongst your people in a stress-free way?
When you answered YES to these questions, you should give yourself a pat on the back and realize you are not just a Leader, but a Leader that exudes higher levels of emotional intelligence..
You are a Leader that has a warmth to you... and your people appreciate that quality in you...
Now, if you answered NO to even one of these questions..
The work to become a better Leader must start with you...
It begins with a "softening" of that hard shell.. and a realization that Dictator based, "I'll tell you what to do" type leadership is no longer a thing....
Today, the Collaborative Leader wins.
So, as you take on your day today, remember.. leadership always starts and ends with how you see and approach your people and every interaction you have throughout the day!
In times like we are in now, my wish for all of you is that you come out of this thing with a renewed passion for leading yourself, others, and approaching each day with passion and excitement!
