Hey Team...
Hope you had an awesome weekend!
It was a real smoker here in the NY Metro Area... but hey, it's Summer!
What I love most about summer is hearing the birds in the morning and how intrinsically motivated I feel to get up, get out, and get moving...
You know? It is like you just want to get out there and participate...
This weekend, I spent hours in the pool... which was a great way to rehab my back after herniating a disc 2 weeks ago...
And, although I thought herniating a disc was a really bad thing (which it is), I learned some really important lessons in my time that I was down... and going through my stretch, walk, ice rehab routine....
The first lesson is this: We Don't Need as much Food As We Think
Yup. You read that right.. most of us flat out eat too much. We drink too much. We have too much coffee. Too many carbs. Too many calories. Last week, I cut back to 3-square meals- each had a protein + vegetable + fruit... and without going to the gym.. boom, I lost weight.
The second lesson is: We Don't Need to Train As Much As We Think
Now, does that mean be lazy?
Nope. It means have a plan that is specific to you that is not built on excess. All that extra work can really wear you down, wear down your "parts", and can also put your body in a state of over-training. Train just enough so you get the results.
The third lesson is: We Don't Need to DO As Much As We Think
This was a big one for me. It is amazing how before my injury, I was running all over the place. Constantly in motion. Constantly thinking.
But, when you get hurt, your body goes into survival mode.
Your thoughts become streamlined and simple, so do your actions.
This reminds me of many of the high performers I work with.
They love rest.
They love relaxation.
They love watching mini-series.
They are NOT working all the time.
Sometimes, when we don't trust ourselves, and we are always "chasing", we are actually playing defense against ourselves, rather than offense on life!
Can you relate?
Have you been afraid to take a day off because you may "fall behind"?
Or, maybe you have not taken a vacation in years because you feel like your business will crash.
Or, maybe you were at one time over-weight and you have not eaten a carb in 10 years with the fear of blowing up if you do...
All of these thoughts are actually defensive and take away your personal power...
We are powerful.
We must trust ourselves to truly bring about our own greatness.
Finding your way to simplicity will do you wonders...
In a culture where we are constantly being inundated with "speed"... and "speed" phrases like hustle, 24-7-365, if you want to find your own personal best, you may need to slow down so you can "feel" and truly "see" what is right in front of you!
I know you can do it....just don't wait for an injury to be the thing that slows you down...
Let's GO!
Chase Greatness.
