All this talk of sitting and kneeling has really got me thinking about the importance of standing...

As somebody that has had many bouts with episodic back pain, I realized I was able to trace those episodes to 2 things...

1. Frequent Sitting 

2. Stress

* Or a combination... 

So as many are debating the political statements of sitting vs. standing.. 

This blog is written about YOU.

I like to look at: Every bout of sitting must be followed by a bout of stretching... 


Whenever you get the opportunity to stand.. take it!

Your standing to sitting ratio should always be at least 3:1... preventing you from turning into a human accordion.. 

Think of standing as lengthening your entire body and chain through the spine... and think of sitting as condensing and shortening it...

Think of sitting as compressing your organs and impeding optimal function... and think of standing as enhancing it..

(think about your digestive track and intestinal function sitting vs. standing.. many people that sit all day have issues going #2.. but as soon as they start moving, sweating, and exercising... boom.. "get me a bathroom they say!)

If you work at a job that requires sitting.. build in your standing meetings, order a standing desk, schedule walk and talk meetings, and building in stretch breaks through the day to help you "stay long"... 

In addition.. for those who work jobs that require a lot of sitting, if you are able to "heat your body up" in the morning via exercise, sauna, and/ or extended hot shower, along with total body stretching, you will STAY LOOSER LONGER though the day.

I always feel it is easier to wake-up, get warm and loose, then attack the day rather than try and make it up after work as your STRESS is higher and your already SHORTENED from sitting. Make sense?

This would be the equivalent of an athlete trying to warm-up after the game and playing the game tight... NOT GONNA WORK!

So let's change your game.. Start Your Day with a HEAT UP Session.. a STRETCH.. and always remember your RATIO of  3 TO 1, Standing Over Sitting!

You can do this.. your WHY is to be Pain Free, More Productive, and to FEEL GREAT! 

(and.. none of us want to be hunched over as we age.. that is the ultimate killer of performance)
