Hey Team!
Hope you guys are doing great....
We are dominating the week and heading towards victory as we approach the weekend!
Last night I went to an incredible event, called Elite Meet. This incredible Organization links elite military personnel, with Business Professionals & Titans... helping them transition from the Military into the most competitive battlefield of all, Business. (outside of real battle of course)
I have to tell you, some truly amazing people that protect us and represent our great country. Truly special. Truly admirable.
As a performance coach and performance junkie, I could not help but gush with awe and excitement being around these guys...
What was most striking?
Outside of them being in great physical shape, their level of intellect, processing, and question asking.
Wow.
Details. Plans. Outcomes.
One word answers were not good enough. Short explanations did not work for them. They wanted to know every detail about my life, what I do, how I do it, who I serve, etc....
Special.
Then I flipped the script to ask about their training...
More Wow.
Everything was about the strategy and how that strategy related to the team and the desired outcome.
No wasted movements.
No wasted thoughts.
The energy of team and teamwork, or selflessness, in that room was incredible...
This all got me thinking..
How can we be Simply Detailed in our life...in our work.. in our training?
How can we define the objective we are looking to achieve and not waste steps contemplating, over-theorizing, hypothetically speaking, and just go after what it is we want...
You see, although these guys are in some very dynamic and complex situations, their decision making is rapid because it has to be...
They do the work of learning their "course" up front, then when they are deployed, they react (without over-thinking)...
My favorite lesson of the night came from Michael LeFeve, a former Senior Executive in the United States Airforce...
He said this, "There was one night, we were flying and were being shot at. I was not flying the plane but I was behind the pilot and my job was to focus on navigating us to safety... When the bullets were coming at us, I was scared for a second. Then I realized, when it comes to flying, bullets are not guaranteed to take down your aircraft. The ground can though. So as scared as I was, I made calmed myself by being mission focused. I focused on navigating and not hitting the ground. Focusing on the task at hand, eliminating the externals is what can calm you.."
Amazing. These are the real pros. Never buckling under the pressure and keeping things in true perspective. Remember, don't hit the ground! Focus on the task at hand.
I hope you can enjoy and appreciate all of the above!
