Hi Team...

I am excited to write you this morning...

Yesterday was a full day of coaching... and I ended the night on a 90-minute panel speaking to some of the top collegiate softball coaches in the United States...

Very cool...

We talked a lot about habits, mindsets, and behaviors- and how they can be used to elevate the performance of collegiate athletes...

And today, I want to share a concept with you that I shared with them...

The Power of Addition.

You see, most people today when they speak about habits, breaking habits, changing habits, talk about taking away and exchanging.. bad for good....

I have always looked at it different...

Nobody wants to have a BAD habit that does not serve them....

Most do not even know how the BAD habit got there in the first place- because like negative thoughts, nobody would consciously choose a bad habit..

So, how do they get there?

Negative habits arrive when you are in a state of vulnerability....

Tired. Fatigued. Burnt-out. Stressed. Feeling Pressure.

Now, some people have been taught negative habits by watching the behaviors of others or maybe they even grew up being taught them by those they looked up to- so, they assimilated.

For today's lesson, lets assume they were acquired.

Well, the hardest thing to do is stop.

Stop smoking.

Easy for a non-smoker.

Stop eating sugar.

Easy for somebody that does not like sugar.

Stop spending so much time look at other people.

Easy for somebody who is convicted in their path, busy, and is to locked in on their own journey.

This is where we apply The Power of Addition.

The concept is based on the the mentality that it is to hard to instantly or acutely change a bad habit... so the alternative is we wean the habit away....

We do this by keeping the habit- but adding in the good habits... Got it?

Let's say, you eat too much sugar.

  • Rather than tell you to stop, we would introduce foods that cut the sugar cravings- like green tea and green apples and green salads... we would consume these first- then, you can go ahead and have your choice of sugar...

The reality is- you most likely will not want it or certainly not as much...

Over time, the negative habit erases itself or becomes on life support.

This works for anything....

You just have to have your "IN-ADDITION-TO" habits ready to go....

This is a very powerful concept and change agent- and, it is much easier to perform than going cold turkey.....

Now, for the extremists here- you may still prefer cold turkey... but, for those stubborn habits you are not able to course-correct on, give The Power of Addition a shot....

It works.

Let's go.
