Hey Team....
Last night, I was up late!
The Yankees are now American League East Champions for the 19th time in their history...
Amazing.
Why?
Because they are my team? Nope.
Because that says something about the Organization, their process, their expectations, and how they go about their business. The standard in which they hold themselves to collectively.
Consistency is the end result of a working process, aligned expectations, and a way of doing business and conducting yourself.
Isn't that what we all want?
Consistent results?
What we witnessed last night was simply the process yielding results.
Expected results.
Now, this is a team that has faced injury hardship, and as recently as yesterday, took another devastating blow in losing a pitcher who is out on domestic violence allegations.
But the great teams find a way to unite to a cause. They are linked to not only an expectation, a way of going about their business, but to something bigger than themselves.
A goal that requires a group to come together in order to achieve. A feat to big for one person alone to achieve during a solo mission.
This is how great teams work.
They unite. They align. They then attack the process day in and day out. They leave the excuses, the complaining, the focus on problems over solutions behind and get to work.
Behind every great team though is a master builder.
A master architect.
In this case, it is GM Brian Cashman.
In your organization, it has to be you.
In your family, it has to be you.
In 2009, the last time we won a Championship, there was another uniting of high expectation, high talent players who shared a common mission, vision, and goal.
It was all clear. No guessing. Win our 27th World Championship.
In so many Companies today, they have their mission plastered across their headquarters or in their clubhouse, but can all members of the team recite this mission and mantra?
Probably not.
So many that get in the car and head to the office each day are checked out.
They have lost hope.
They no longer see that they can be the change.
The catalyst. The playmaker.
Well friends, it is time to check back in.
I was talking with one of my clients yesterday, Jim.
As we broke down the Organization, we talked about how so many of the players are not willing to do more, be more, become more.
I told him that is because evolution takes effort.
If you want to change, you have to do more.
You have to work harder to overcome your old self and expectations.
That takes work.
And what are so many afraid of?
Work.
But winning teams, winning organizations... they embrace the work that goes into going the distance.
So should you.
Questions of the Day:
And, if you do not have answers to the above.... Call a meeting.
Get all members of the team involved with the answering of these questions.
Collaboration. Communication. All powerful when it comes to alignment.
Now, let's go out there and WIN TODAY!
Let's plan to WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP together!
Embrace the work.
