Yesterday, I was thinking about the best way to approach each day...
This is what I came up with: Approach Every Day Like You Are Going Out of Business Today...
I derived this from the former CEO of Ford.
He would say that Ford had been going out of business for 40 years...
And when you are facing that reality, like every business, it forces you to dig in and lock in and work differently.
I believe that comfort is the enemy of greatness...
Comfort is the killer of potential.
I have seen it too often.
When people arrive, they start to trend backwards.
It is not intentional, but it happens.
This is why it is so difficult for second generation wealth.
The hunger of the first generation builder vs. the second generation is completely different...
This is also why starting with money sometimes is a huge disadvantage as opposed to an advantage.
It is why growing up in an enabled environment often does not yield success..
Success is birthed from a relentless passion...
A passion that can be driven by fear and/or a chip on your shoulder because you have something to prove to yourself and to others...
But Coach, I thought it is not good to work from that state of proving something?
On paper it isn't.
In real world competition, it works very well.
Whatever it takes to keep you motivated, hungry, and inspired.
I did a talk in Boston with Alex Rodriguez a few years ago and I asked him what motivated him?
He said he had his PHD.
He was poor, hungry, and driven.
Those were the ingredients that led to a fierce work ethic and desire to be great.
I approach each day from zero.
Like I have done nothing.
Each day repeats itself and I have the whole day to WIN.
Go out and win.
Start at zero.
Build your day.
Build your results.
Then, the next day, get back at it.
Do this for a 5,10,20 year period and you will be amazed at what happens.
That is truly how winning is done and how legacies are built.
Now, go build your day.
Make it a winner.
