You ever get stuck trying to make a decision- big or small?
Where do you want to go to dinner?
What should I order?
Should I do this or do that?
Next business move?
Put the steal sign on or not (baseball guys)?
Life is a series of questions... awaiting answers.
But why do we get jammed up?
1. We have too much on our plate.
2. We are Hungry, Angry, Lonely, or Tired.....
HALT is the acronym....
HALT is actually used for those overcoming addictions (or bad habits)....
And, it is really a checking system to make sure you are not going to make a bad decision because of your own vulnerability....
The best thing to do when in any of the above situations or feelings- is nothing (big).
Never make a big decision when you are under HALT.
Make the simple decisions- food, movies, etc....but never a big one like a Merger, Acquisition, Large Purchase, Airing of Grievances to a business partner or client....
Be present in the understanding of your "state" and by doing so, you will find yourself actually making decisions at more appropriate times....
Just think- being tired because of a poor night sleep can HALT your chances for success....
Same with being Angry.
Or simply hungry--- or even full from eating too many calories, fats, and starchy, sugar based carbs.
You see, we have to be in prime condition to play the sports of life, business, and Leadership...
So many are struggling today not because of their circumstances but because of themselves and their own personal care routines....
They eat late, stay up late, over-think, and then are too tired to take their physical and mental health to the next level...
That is why I start my coaching clients on the basics first..,.
1. HYDRATION (most are totally dehydrated- this causes cravings and irritability)
2. SLEEP (most are deprived or don't understand sleep cycles)
3. PRIORITY (what is the elephant in the room we have to address?)
4. AM ROUTINE (stretch, heart-rate spiking, breathing)
When you get these 4-things in line, everything changes.
You put yourself first each day-- so you have more to give to others.
You put your health first.
You put your mind first.
You put your body first.
That is how you win.
Is it a bit rigid?
But we humans love structure-- even those who think they rebel against it.
A little structure is good, too much is the enemy.
So as you get ready to attack the day today, think about where you are currently.
Are you experiencing HALT?
Is your routine in check?
How many of the BIG-4 are you doing above each day?
Maybe it is time to take a new view on your own daily preparation-- and realize that your mind and body will determine your success... and most importantly, how you can be amazing at what you do without experiencing fatigue, negativity, and burnout.
