Hi Team....
Quick question....
How do you get good at something?
Answer: Repetition
Ready for the next question?
How do you get bad at something?
Answer: Repetition
Coach, what are you saying?
How do I win then?
Well- we get good at things when we repeat them daily.
We also get really good when we continue to put ourselves in situations of challenge where our skills that we practice daily are challenged.
Think about an artist.
A very good one.
What if they paint the same painting over and over and over again.
Will their other/ overall painting skills get sharper? Probably not.
They will get really good at mastering that particular painting but they have not maximized their entire skill set and will more than likely get bored because they are not challenged.
You see, what we often avoid is actually the key to life.
That key is: Challenge.
Challenge = Discomfort.
When we challenge ourselves we grow.
SO, if you seek growth, you must challenge yourself.
And, here is the thing...
When we grow, we feel great about ourselves.
Some talk about a fear of failure....
I do not believe that fear of failureis true.
I feel it is more of a fear of discomfortthat is true for most.
Discomfort is different.
Discomfort feels weird for a little while.
Most do not like different until different become not different (which happens via repetition of something new)....
Got it?
So do not trick yourself into believing it is failure that you fear- it is really just change.
Doing something new.
It is that "new-ness" though that will keep your sword sharp.
That "new-ness" will keep you engaged and from ever getting complacent, bored, or "stuck" as so many say they are.
Challenge all of your norms sequentially and change will happen naturally.
You will adjust to that change... and you will grow.
That does not mean abandon your routine or process- it means apply your routines and process towards something new and challenging.
Doing the same crap, the same way, for a long period of time without the vision of the next frontier is a dream-killer.
So, today, challenge yourself.
Go out and grow.
Seek discomfort.
And remember this: The only thing to fear is fear itself (because it is not real)!
Go get it today!
