Hi Team...

Over the past few weeks I have been hearing 2-words that really stand out...

I-THINK.

They align well with another 2-words...

NOT-SURE.

If you "think" about the the usage of I-THINK, it is really a demonstration of a guess.

A good guess, maybe even the right guess, but it is a guess.

Look at the 2-words, I-KNOW or I-BELIEVE.

Both are much more affirmative than I-THINK.

Coach, what the hell are you talking about?

Simply this, our language demonstrates power, conviction, and can lead to greater trust amongst those we communicate with when the right language and tonality are used well (and consistently).

Whatever words we use, make sure they are words of conviction.

This is a great reminder and lesson for those who are in sales, negotiations, management, leadership and that are involved with other frequent interactions that require elements of superior communication and demonstrated competency to help other "believe" in themselves, you, and so all can be their best as they work towards goal.

Got it?

So, the action for today is this: Be aware of your words...

How often do you say: I THINK.

What I would like you to do is to use the 2-words:

I-BELIEVE as a substitute to I-THINK.

Here is what will happen:

  1. Your delivery will be stronger and more convicted.
  2. You will only say things that you believe, not what you think (which reduces oral BS, and fillers)
  3. You will deliver a message that is more concise and bonding, rather than just saying something to get in on the conversation, fill dead air, or drop your sometimes meaningless two-cents (we are all guilty at times).

Believe= to accept as true or real.

Think= to reason about or reflect on.

See the difference in conviction levels and strength of the two words?

Very different.

Let's go out and WIN today- by using the right words, at the right times- believe more than you think!

Your Coach,

COACH DANA CAVALEA

Hi. I just wanted to reach out and let you know that today’s message really hit home for me. Most of your daily emails are great reminders or for me, provide a different way to think about something. All very helpful. But today hit home because I’ve been struggling to figure out a situation with someone I supervise. This person comes to me for answers and sometimes I answer with “I think”. There were a couple instances this past year where this person would then go and ask someone else even after I gave him an answer without using “I think”. Your key idea of using “I believe” is it. This person wants to know what I know and wants my direction. If I’m saying “I think” then he doubts that idea. I will start using “I believe” and I hope/bet his trust in me and what I say will be better. Thanks for the “ah-ha” moment today and a presenting a strategy that I was searching for. Best wishes to you!
