Yesterday, for the first time in a long time, I took a full day off during the week.
It was pretty amazing.
A day of rest, reading, and walking.
This was eye opening considering I had not really taken a day during this entire quarantine...
I need more of these days.
And, so do you.
Some days, getting up a little bit later, going to bed a little earlier and a day of rest can really help you feel amazing the day after. Which is how I feel today.
Result = Feel Amazing.
It brought me back to when I was younger and I would have a vacation. Even though I did not want to go back to school, I felt amazing when I got back.
One of my amazing clients, Bruce, is experiencing that now.
He decided to take 3-weeks this summer and head up to the Cape with his family.
Golfing super early each day with his son and then working the rest of the day from a remote location...
Result = He feels amazing and is loving the time with his family.
Another client, Tom is doing the same thing this summer in Montauk.
Golf in the AM, work all day from a remote location.
Result= He feels amazing and is more productive than ever.
Yesterday, I was doing some reading on the CEO of 1-800-GOT-JUNK, Brian Scudamore.
He takes off 8-weeks, 5 in a chunk of time during the summer and rarely works on the weekend.
What if the answer to the question: How to Achieve PEAK Performance? Was actually doing less?
What if you did less, but got more done?
What if you added more recreation to your life and became more satisfied?
What if you didn't feel like you always needed to be working or moving, but instead focused on 1-2 key objectives each day?
That would be 5-10 key objectives complete per week, 20-40 per month, 240-480/ year.
Pretty good I would say.
One common thread I have found in coaching CEOs and Leaders is that the best know when enough is enough...
They can recognize a need for change or a lifestyle upgrade....
They have the skill.
They have the will.
Once they realize how important rest, recovery, and rejuvenation is to their performance, everything changes.
The 3-R's of Rest, Recovery, Rejuvenation is the secret formula to PEAK Performance.
So, if you have some of the below symptoms, try taking some time off:
These symptoms indicate not failure, but that your system is overworked.
An overworked system is similar to an electronic that is short fusing.. the wires are getting hot and it becomes sensitive and borderline dangerous...
The same is true for you.
You become short-fused an borderline dangerous!
So take the time.
Schedule your day to nail your objectives.
Then, go relax.
I know it may sound foreign and crazy- but it really works if you want sustainable productivity.
