Hey Team...
I have shared with you in the past that 1x per week, a few of my baseball buddies and I get together to talk, laugh, and coach each other....
It is a real blast....
And, what is coo about it is that we are all in different parts of the country...
But connected via video chat....
I always like to recap the call with you as last night we had to answer the question:
How do you measure Success?
On the surface, it is a fairly easy question to digest.
But, sit with it for a minute.
How do you measure success for yourself?
The ability to answer this question has so many benefits....
I also like to say, you have to define it both long term and short term....
The short term successes... no matter how small, should be getting you closer to your long range successes....
You can look at the long-range almost as your mission....
What you stand for at your core.....
The legacy you are building......
So, How do you measure success for yourself?
Personally, for me it is about DAILY Impact, Influence, and Progress.
If I am doing those 3-Things every day then I am a success.
Now, how do I go about doing that? (The Short Term)
On top of all that and wrapped around that is having great relationships with all my clients, my family, my wife, and making each experience intentionally positive...
When somebody leaves a meeting with me, I want them to feel better than before it started. That is my goal.
Again, if I execute on this, all the other "WANTS" I have will begin to happen....
Now, measuring success for me has always been different than "goal setting"...
Which, at times can also be the source of tremendous stress for many if they are not reaching their "goals" fast enough....
Last week, I was talking with a Sales Team... so many of the members were stressed because they were not reaching their goals...
I asked them if they were doing better this year than last?
They said yes.
They also said that last year was a record breaking year for them!
So, their sales goals this year were much higher... Amazing!
They are actually doing better than they have ever done if you think about it....
It is a success... but, they are not hitting goal.
If you define success, then you will know if you have it or not....
Not that goal setting is bad.. but it is different than success....
COACHING EXERCISE:
I encourage you today to take a few minutes and answer the question...
What does measuring success mean to me? (it should be about your whole life, not just work/ business/ career)
Also, if you want to be a great leader of your team or family, this exercise is a fun one to know EXACTLY where your people are at..... and it can be a great teaching tool....
Give it a shot!
Let's GO!
