Hey Team!
Checking in with you today....
I wanted to share a great lesson learned from Surfing Great, Laird Hamilton...
Now, I have never actually surfed... and actually never plan on it...
But the way Laird compares surfing to life was very interesting...
And.. it is in line with my core philosophy on how resisting stressors actually leads to greater stress..
You can't fight water and win....
You definitely can fight 60 Foot Hawaii Curling Waves and Win...
When you resist that powerful wave... you will always get taken over and lose...
And think about how much ENERGY you would have to expend trying to even attempt that!
Let's break it down like this...
Big Wave Coming at You.... You TRY to go AGAINST the wave.... (Do you actually think you can stop it?)... No Chance...
What if instead of fighting the wave.... you actually went WITH THE WAVE...
Riding the wave...
Riding with the adversity....
The wave is symbolic of hurdles in life...
Dilemmas in life....
The problems we are all going to face... from death, to finances, to stress, to fatigue...
You name it.... but never resist...
Resisting will leave you burnt out and exhausted....
Instead... realize whatever you are facing is a part of life.... SUBMIT TO IT...
You can only make good decisions with a quiet mind.....
You can only find solutions when you have internal peace....
Greatness can not be obtained in a state of panic....
Even if there is panic around you....
You must quiet the noise... and regulate your nervous system.... which in turn will slow your respiratory rate and lower your heart rate....
When you see or feel a HIGH STRESS situation coming on... or if you miss that opportunity to decipher, and are in the middle of one...
Your mind should switch like train tracks to ACCEPTANCE AND SUBMISSION... followed immediately by deep breathing and slow thoughts....
Resist and Fail.
Submit and Win.
And what I have found to be the key to success in these situations is 2-Fold:
1. Focus on the positive outcomes only....
2. Realize this is a temporary state.... no matter how trying, permanent and large it may seem.
Resist nothing....
Like Bruce Lee says... be like water... become the glass.....
Adapt to all situations and you will find a lot less resistance in your life...
Your strength and power.... and success in all that you do will come from your ability to adapt and submit...
