Happy Monday... Let's Do This!
The last three days were pretty amazing for me....
I spoke at The University of Notre Dame to a large group of Athletic Directors and Coaches that are 100% focused on Athletic Development... and helping the next generation of athletes perform at the highest level... monitoring how they are coached, how teams are being built, and most importantly, bringing the focus of fun and positive coaching back to the sports arena...
Very similar to what I see Companies and Leaders trying to do today...
Heavily focusing on HOW we approach those that make up our teams and how we can get the most out of them....
During my talk, I spoke about Building A Winning Team by knowing what your "players" want....
Not what YOU want, but what THEY want...
Really, the talk was about opening up a conversation and a transparent dialogue with those you lead...
We can no longer lead through dictatorship...
But we must lead through collaboration..engagement, and open-style conversation...
Then, we must get everybody to PUT ON THEIR GAME-FACE....
And, speaking of game face, I had the chance to hang and speak with former NFL Player, Devon Still who shared a powerful testimony about his daughter overcoming Cancer.....
One of the key principles he shared came from his playbook was the concept of GAME-FACE....
He would say, before he would take the field, either at Penn State or for the Houston Texans, he would always put on his GAME-FACE... a transition from the nice guy, teddy bear that he is... to the on-field Warrior that he has to be to play the NFL game...
When his daughter would go for her Chemo, he taught her GAME-FACE...in order to get through the toxic treatment.. he and his daughter would both put on their GAME-FACES to challenge the deadly disease....
Now, they won their fight, but the concept of GAME-FACE is really important...
Why?
How many of us often times feel over-matched?
Scared?
Not ready?
Feel not worthy?
Probably all of us- currently or at some point....
When you are feeling that feeling, just remember GAME-FACE.
If you have a big meeting, think GAME-FACE.
If you have a big interview, think GAME-FACE.
If you have a big game, think GAME-FACE.
If you have a big challenge, think GAME-FACE.
Get it?
GAME-FACE is your alter ego. Your MAMBA mentality...
It is the state in which you have courage, strength, and power that you may not possess in your "reality"....
But, what is amazing about GAME-FACE is that the more you put it on, the more you become it...
The more you embody it...
It is truly your strongest, most powerful, most bold self.
Before you can put your GAME-FACE on, think about what it looks like to you.
GAME-FACE is usually built on the opposite feeling of your natural, passive, scared feelings...
Ex. Scared (Opposite) = Powerful
Weak (Opposite) = Strong
Passive (Opposite) = Aggressive
Now, it is not becoming somebody you are not.... It is becoming who you really are.. often times the SELF we often hide....
So, when you put on your GAME-FACE, make it yours... own it.. don't fake it...
