Bold Headline... but long overdue..
I do not know one person that hears the word diet and perks up with joy!
When we talk about the results that "may" occur.. the losing of weight, improved skin complexion, less acidity in the body, reduction of disease risk... we are all ears..
But like most things in life.. those rewards only come to the extremely discipline..
Where I found diets to be extremely counteractive is with those who STRESS over their diets, those who STRESS to maintain their diets, and those who are placed on, or choose radical caloric restricting diets that STRESS their systems..
We are in an era of cleanses, detoxes, plant-based, low calorie diets, plans, and eating strategies today..
They work to "lose" the initial 10lbs.. but many they come back around with a vengeance.
Many of you know I am a non- Lululemon wearing Soul Cycler on the weekends..
I love the dance beats and high energy, thoughtless fitness option that cycling provides...
But afterwards, I always like to indulge in a smoothie..
I spin in a wealthy town called Scarsdale, filled with the best of the best from fitness to health bowls to radical fat reducing ice freeze treatments..
This Saturday, I stopped at a place that is PLANT BASED for my smoothie..
Fresh ingredients, clean place, refrigerators stocked with only the best plant based foods.. blah blah blah..
After I ordered, I witnessed a woman at the counter, with her personal in-house "chef"/ dietician (aka saleswoman) selecting her menu for the week..
Now mind you, this woman was probably in her 60s, had more plastic surgery than Michael Jackson, and she was determined to lose more weight from already lean figure..
The vulture of a "chef"/ dietician that worked at the place saw this as on opportunity to sell her every juice they had, using all the buzzwords like detox, flush, alkaline, cancer risk reduction to "hook her" even more..
It worked..
And this is what gets me sick about this industry of health, nutrition, and fitness.
This session with this woman could of been summed up by saying:
1. Cut out sugars.
2. Increase vegetables, especially greens.
3. Drink only water.
4. Get 8-10 hours sleep per night.
5. Chicken or Fish Primarily..
Easy to follow. Simple. Works.
We keep searching but the reality is the answers have been around for 50 years..
There are no shortcuts.
Stress makes you fat.
Lack of sleep makes you stressed, so therefore makes you fat.
We eat sugar often times as a coping mechanism or as a way to "energize" our body when we are not taking in enough nutrients..
If you stress about everything you eat.. you will repeat the fat cycle..
Simple stuff.
And the worst part about these low calorie diets and detoxes?
Once you come back to reality and introduce real, non-powdered foods to your diet.. you get Fat all over again... because of the hard-core deprivation you just introduced your body too over a a very short period..
Then.. your back in the stress and fat cycle..
Keep it simple. Eat Whole Foods. Cut Sugar Intake. Drink Water. Exercise.
Stop listening to the buzz words..
Oh yea.. all of this will require commitment and discipline..
