Hey Team...

I will admit, this time of year I start to miss my baseball days and the "guys"..

Being a part of a Major League Baseball team was such an amazing thing...

Could you imagine showing up to work everyday, having 25 of your close friends there, and using competition to bring you even closer every game...

Amazing...

So this morning I just happen to be online, checking on my "players" and what they are up to, and I found a great clip on the Legendary Derek Jeter...

Incredible player, Hall of Fame Career, Marlins CEO and Co-Owner...but still totally down to earth...

What I found so funny about this clip was when the little kids had no idea who he was! Could you believe it???

But, over the past few months, since taking over Marlins Ownership, he has definitely taken some hits in regards to criticism...

That is what today's lesson is about... DEALING WITH CRITICISM...

And when it comes to criticism, there are 2-Types:

1. From Others

2. From Self...

Which is worse?

Definitely #2... (no pun intended)...

Why is Self Criticism worse than criticism from others?

Well, one we can control, and the other we can not...

Self- Criticism is really self-defeating...

The more you speak negatively about yourself, the more you batter you confidence, decision making ability, and overall self-esteem...

All bad news if you are looking for Champion-Like Performances...

I must admit, guilty as charged on this at times....

But the key is catching yourself.... that is what I have become really good at...."checking-in" with myself... and learning what I am really saying to myself at all times.... and you need to do the same...

The key is being aware enough, and present enough to do so...

And if you can be, you can really start changing your thought patterns to help you win....

You see, your life is based on your thoughts. How you react to things, think about things, and whether or not you achieve what you set out to achieve is all based on your thoughts and how you see yourself...

Fear is perpetuated on negative thoughts about yourself and abilities...

When it comes to Criticism from others- what makes this so dangerous is when you put it on top of Self- Criticism...

That can further inhibit your chances for success because you are unable to believe you can be successful...

So, as somebody who got to know Derek very well over 12 years, and still to this day, I learned that you must master you inner game, not read the headlines, and trust that you have the tools to win....

Take some time today to study your inner game...

What are you saying to yourself?
