Hey Team...

It's Monday!

Let's DO THIS!

I just spent the weekend up in Saratoga Springs watching some of the finest horses in the World run at the Spa for the weekend...

For those of you that know me, you know my other passion outside of coaching athletes & high performers is watching thoroughbred horses train and compete...

I don't even bet.... 

I am just so into the whole process of breeding, studying bloodlines, and then working to get a young horse from birth to track....

Anyway, on my 3 hour ride, I was having a talk with my wife about all this talk about "positive thinking" and how everyone tells you to be positive, yet, most people struggle....

I said to her, "Most people struggle because it is not as simple as just saying- SELF, be positive"....

You see, our negative mindset and landscape comes from some place.....

Having been a COACH for over 20 years... I have heard it all... and let me tell you, when you are coaching people into a new mindset and head-space, it goes beyond just snapping your fingers and saying, "BE POSITIVE"....


Well, we are the product of our experiences.

We are the product of our parents experiences.

We are the product of an entire line of genetic code.

Therefore, we embody all those who have come before us.

Then, on top of that, you have the environments you have been in and currently reside in.

For those that live in or near NYC like I do- it is a much different energy and mindset than those who live in Lexington, KY or Nashville, TN.

We must realize environment can lead to a negative mindset.

We must also realize, our self-talk and daily dialogue with those we are around the most can morph our mindset.

The work we do each day and the environment we do it in can morph our mindset. 

Weather can effect our mindset- hot vs. cold, sunny vs. gray, winter vs. summer, fall vs. spring.

Hydration status can morph our mindset.

Food choices can effect our mindset.

The amount of sleep we get, the amount of coffee we drink, the amount of allergens in the air....

You catch my drift?

Sometimes you can not just flip the switch because you have "real stuff" happening in and around you...

So what do we do?

Step 1: TEST.

Study your reactions to things... 

If you eat certain foods- do you feel tired and sluggish or energized and ready to go? One will make you feel naturally positive, the other not so much. Sleep- what is the optimal amount of hours for YOU? Optimal bed-time? Optimal wake-time?

Do you travel certain places and feel amazing because of the climate, people, and conditions? If yes, maybe you should consider a change....


Recognize your reactions to things, people, and places... as well as how you feel at different times of the year, day, and month...

You may notice trends.... 

You may find yourself reacting certain ways during certain times....

You must recognize this and file it in your EXPERIENCE BANK.

Step 3: ACT.

You must take action and create change after you TEST and RECOGNIZE.

If you know things are not good for you and you continue to them and surround yourself in negative environments and interactions, then your results will be more likely on the negative side of things....


You see, now, once you have done the due diligence on yourself- you can then start to flip the switch from negative to positive because you have the data.

You know why you are reacting to things.

You can predict negative circumstances based on the things you do, say, and hear... 

Having a conscious awareness of yourself before you just say, "BE POSITIVE" is critical....

There is always a reason WHY we are the way we are....

I encourage you to do the work..

Dig a little.

Get to know yourself.

Slow down to feel your gut and hear your gut....

Rather than run to speed up and get away from your internal gut instincts...

When you have greater insight as to how YOUR machine works specifically, the results can be unreal.

Positive is usually better than negative...

But, there have been plenty of people that have been fueled and powered by overcoming negative and playing with a chip on their shoulder...

YOU just need to know the kind of player you are!
