~THE DANGER OF IMPULSIVE THINKING~
I am a huge fan of instincts. Instincts are a human reflex that is innate.
Our instincts get sharper as we go through life, with adequate down time, and unplugging...
We must understand that IMPULSE and INSTINCTS are two different things... IMPULSE is driven by emotion... INSTINCT is driven by "gut" and the subconscious.
Everyday you can see people acting emotionally though impulse-- from their words, to food choices, to their overall operating system.
Victim mentalities are driven by impulse and a lack of emotional control.
Controlling emotions is the sign of a true PRO. If you allow yourself to be reactive to the World.. the world will react accordingly.
If you push, it will push back. If you pull, it will pull back. If you fight, it will fight back.
If you want to live a more PRO Life... allowing impulsive emotions to lead you through your journey will definitely hurt you. Letting your GUT lead the way is a much different way to go about your leadership and ride through life.
Remember, the Gut = Intuition and Subconscious... which is an internal compass if you follow it.
Impulsive decision making and actions will lead you to regretful words, situations, and circumstances.. and will compromise your overall creditability- a position none of us ever want to be in.
So how do we do this? How do we live more Pro? How do we reduce our emotional state so that our INSTINCTIVE state can take over?
Easy.... Practice. Building emotional control takes practice.. but it first takes recognition and understanding where the outbursts are reactions are coming from.
I will never forget this story about myself and Derek Jeter...
We were playing the Detroit Tigers.. and myself and bunch of players were hanging out in the training room breaking chops... and Derek Jeter said something to me that I found a little bit jarring... at that point I snapped back to him in a defensive tone.. what he said next changed my emotional and thought life forever...
He said to me, "Dana... the only reason we are defensive is because we are insecure about ourselves".... and that hit me like a ton of bricks!
From that day forward, I engaged in self-study to fully understand myself and what drove that reaction... at the roots he was right...
I was always fighting for my position in baseball.. even after I already had it. I was always the youngest guy and felt I had a lot of folks against me and a lot to prove.. the old " I am not good enough talk".. when that was not even true!
I was against myself. Once I was able to understand the driver of my IMPULSIVE Psychology... I changed it.. and so can you.
With emotional control comes strength. With emotional control comes healthier thoughts. With emotional control comes happiness. Give it a try and let your instincts guide you... instincts are your navigation.
