~TUESDAY'S WITH AROD~
One of the best parts of my past with the Yankees has been the World Champion Athletes I have been able to not only Coach, but most importantly learn from.
Tuesday was one of those days!
I got the call early in the day that AROD was in town and wanted to connect.
As a proud Coach, I have been watching what he has been doing in the business and media world of late and was curious to hear how things were moving along!
Little did I know the day would be less about his journey and more about mine!
Starting with a hardcore interrogation of what I was doing to spread my World Champion message to people.
What was I doing to show people how the greatest team in the World, with the greatest players in the World, that had won so many championships did to train for success day in and day out!
This really got me thinking. What made us so successful?
What continues to drive the dynasty known as the Yankees?
What I walked away with was two things.
1. Habits drive success.
2. The power of team and partnership.
I saw this in play Tuesday!
With Alex, even though he is retired, his day yesterday began with 90 minutes of hot yoga to stretch out (since he understands his body, flexibility is his limiting factor), followed by cold showers, a high protein, high nutrient meal in chicken with guacamole and fresh vegetables, and finally an evening workout of weights and cardio.
Pretty full day of training for a retired guy. He also had built rest in between to make sure he is fresh for his media job and speaking engagements.
When I asked how he is driving his current success in business, outside of having extremely high business acumen, he said without great partners, the best in category, success would be tough.
The discussion of success should always mention pedigree. Look at Jeter. World Champion Short Stop- which you know will be followed by extreme leadership and success as a new owner. Success is a habit based on a series of habits.
We agreed that success in sport and success in life is the same. Repeated habits, day in and day out, with an expectation of success, along with strong partnerships and team will get you there.
Understanding who you are, what makes you great, and what your shortcomings are, are also vital components of success.
How does this relate to you? How many things do you do each day that don't serve you and your strengths? Where could you partner to make your life easier, yet also accelerated in the positive direction? What are the negative habits that can be exchanged for positive that could increase your forward motion and trajectory?
Think about it.
I know for me personally, I have really good habits, but if I do them in the wrong order, I am toast! Ex. I have to train/ workout early in the AM or I won't do it. If I do workout early, the chances of me getting a second workout in that day and eating well go way up.
Tuesdays with AROD. Much appreciated. Much learned. #trainlikeapro
