So, last night I had an amazing dinner and conversation with a veteran Major League Baseball man....
He has been in the game over 30 years.. and has held almost every position in the game... from front office to Manager.. which you just do not see... ever.
We spent a 3hr. evening talking about the game, the players, training, development, our careers, and most important our love for an amazing game that brings such great people together..... (AND, no cell phones)
It is a fraternity for life.
An instant connection.
A trust that is naturally there based on each person being vetted by the game....
Really cool- and very difficult to find in any other work setting.
Dan is a member of the Washington Nationals- the World Champion Nationals.
We were talking about winning the World Series.. and how amazing that was last year. The team that was not expected to win at the start of the season- well, they won the whole thing.
A team based approach.
A connected approach.
An approach to winning and leadership that was top down.
So, as you know, I love to talk about winning.... and leadership of course because that is where it all starts.....
He talked to me about a daily ritual called: The Circle of Trust....
It sounds almost tribal....
And that is why it works....
And, every team beneath you also does the same thing?
This can be Coach Led or Player Led...
CEO led or Executive Led...
Manager led or Employee Led...
You see, what this does is allows for connectivity- a closeness to be born. A feeling of comfort during battle.
Does your Organization do this?
If you are remote, can you do it with zoom or video conference? Yup.
This will make you and your team stronger.
Remember, this is an exercise of open and honest communication. Not to attack others- but rather share what is on your mind so you can "travel light" through your day.
Doing something like this takes courage....
It take commitment.
You gotta want to make this happen as a Leader, knowing, there will be day you do not want to do it, but, somebody on your team needs it that day.
What do you think?
Are you willing to give it a try?
Listen, if a team of Alpha World Champion Men can do it- so can you!
We know that group is not a real touchy feely group typically- so anybody can do it!
But you have to be open, ready, and empathetic to make it happen.
