Well, it is 63 degrees on the farm today... nice brisk air for July and it is amazing!
Actually, here it is July and it actually feels like Fall- that can throw one for a loop!
Makes you think... Fall in July?
Which makes me think, how many of us have been thinking the same way for a while?
Meaning, we could never have a fall day in July.
Follow me here...
In your mind, and the way you go about your life, it is always in sequence.
Or, maybe never in sequence.
But what would it take to "shock" the way you think?
The ice-cold water to your thought process.
You see, what brings this about is when I coach, I see people living a life that is the result of repetitive thoughts.
This is good and bad.
Good because if you are getting results from those thoughts that are positive- great.
Bad if you are not getting the results that you want as a results of those thoughts and are feeling negative.
Also bad if your repetitive thoughts at one point gained your acceleration, growth, and the success that you want- but bad if you are not longer an innovator of your own mind.
Today, as I was designing a teaching that I am doing with my coaching clients, I am working to get them to "think laterally".
This simply means moving them from their traditional thought process to a new one.
This reminds me of the concept that was written about years ago by Seth Godin of the purple cow.
If you were driving and saw a purple cow- what would you do?
You would definitely take a double take- stop- and maybe even take some photos.
It is a great example of lateral thinking. We never see purple cows.
But what if all cows were purple?
Well, then we would just continue right along and that would just be another cow- and a white and black cow (actually called a holstein) would now be something we may have to stop for!
I know this may seem like a wild concept- but the truth is, many of us keep seeing the same color cow and we are due for a change.
We are due for a psychological revamp.
We are due to challenge our own norms of thought.
There is a great quote I love: "Innovate or Die"- (right Bruce?)...
Because, once we stop innovating, we stop growing.
I always admire those who I Coach that have a huge list of achievements and are looking to me to challenge them to think more, think differently, think better, and to think different.
It is hard to see our own blindspots.
That happens when we think laterally vs. our. traditional linear thinking.
And, it brings you right back to when you were passionate about learning and elevating.
We do all of the above by getting out there and experiencing new things, learning new things (Skills), and by getting around new people and environments, frequently.
There is actually a name for this: Activity Dependent Plasticity.
This simply translates to the more new experiences you have and immerse yourself in, the greater cortical development you will have in your brain.
That is what it is about.
Be the purple cow!
Love you guys- and thanks for coming on this high performance journey with me!
