Consistency.
Let me write it again: Consistency.

How can one guy keep becoming more and more exceptional- transitioning from "playing" baseball to now moving to the "business" side of the game?

You may say it is because "he has the money"... or "he is just lucky".. or " he knows people.."

My follow-up is this: What about the other star athletes, like Alan Iverson who made a ton of money, had great talent, had luck and then lost most of it. Same trajectory, star power, and luck, but not the same end result.

Knowing Derek for the past 16 years, it doesn't get any better than him. When it comes to "simplistic consistency" in every aspect of his life.. it is no wonder he has immense clarity.

We are all reading books now on "The ONE Thing" "Essentialism" "How to live a more simple life and achieve more".... but this guy actually lives it.

Simple. Efficient. Success.

199lbs. his entire playing career. Consistent. Same pre-game meal everyday. Consistent. Same routine and warm-up before every game. Consistent. Starbucks before arriving at the field everyday. Consistent. Monday- Wednesday-Friday at 3:30pm was his workout time. Consistent. Always on- time. Consistent.Never gossips. Consistent.

Full accountability all the time. Full responsibility all the time.

That is why this guy is a winner. The rings were the end result of his behavior and teammates matching it.

If you want to win at your diet, your training, your career, your business.. then you need to become "simplistic and consistent"... that is the ART. Plan your workouts. Plan your fueling and nutrition. Plan for your end result--- work backwards from what you want.

If you go off track.. get back on track. 1 DAY off the program will not derail your train if you are truly passionate about achievement.

Define what you want. Write it down, process it, commit to it.. and then go be exceptional at it. No matter what your age, career, background, or position in life.. you are in control, the questions is are you consistent? Consistency of positive habits can overcome any negatives.

When you Coach high performers the similarities are incredible.. and the common denominator is always CONSISTENCY..

My good friend Brandon Steiner always gets a kick out of it when I say the "saying" I live by... "Consistency over time yields the greatest results"...

Go be consistent. Become obsessed with something. Go win at that thing.
