Hey Team...
Hope you had an awesome weekend!
Well, we have about 7-weeks left in 2019... until we have to lock in our 2020 Vision!
So, we gotta get to work.
This weekend, I spoke at a Conference for a group of Surgeons- some of the top in the Country...
A group that was extremely well educated, running thriving practices, and ready to learn... after all, they were Type A, High Achievers that hold themselves to the highest of standards (much like many of YOU).....
Now, these are great qualities to have if you want to get stuff done.... and become an outward success....but there is ONE KEY ISSUE....
Often times, these high performers are never satisfied....
So not satisfied even after amazing accomplishments...
This is also the reason why many high performers deal with higher levels of stress and anxiety....
They also struggle to ever feel truly relaxed without a drink or two or three.....
Got it?
Can you relate?
This group...they are the CHASERS...
They run hard....
They actually do everything 100%... full force... full charge....
It can totally yield results... we just have to make sure the quest for results does not derail them as people....
And that is what my lesson was about during my presentation:
IF YOU WANT GREAT RESULTS AND TO BE AN AMAZING LEADER, YOU MAY HAVE TO LOWER YOUR EXPECTATIONS.
This was like speaking Arabic to them... and many others who heard this message...
Lower expectations?
What?
Well, Wall Street does it on certain stocks/ Companies... and so should you.
Lowering your expectations can work to get you "caught up" without the pressure... especially when you feel like everything is moving so fast.....
So, it is so important that you realize where and what your expectations are at all times....
Again, most high performers are well educated and hold themselves to a borderline unachievable standard....
High, high, high expectations....
But not just for themselves!
For everyone around them also...
This can lead to marriage/ relationship tension and conflict....
It can make managing and leading a team tough with high turnover/ churn because (YOU), the Leader can be impossible to please..... and, as a result the team starts to feel they can not win and are never good enough....
It can make YOU, the high performer never feel truly happy at a root level because you never feel like you are succeeding- you can and should always do more.
Well, let's do this.
For the next 7-weeks, lets write down the 1-2 things we want to get done to make 2019 a great year.... and, work on LOWERING EXPECTATIONS.
Meaning, you will get those things done (TRUST ME)... but you will not get them done at the expense of your health, sanity, and elevating stress levels....
Lower your expectations....(you will still be operating at a level much higher than the average due to your natural intelligence and ability)
Give your body and mind a chance to experience what it feels like to work with passion, fun, and more of an expanded/ relaxed way of being....
I think you will like it....
But overall, managing your expectations is really helpful....
When you feel the stress and anxiety meter rise... just realize, it is directly related to your EXPECTATIONS and where you currently feel your are at...relative to those expectations..... (file that)...
Let's GO!
