Hi Team!
Hope you had an awesome Thanksgiving Week!
Last week was a lot of fun- spending time with my family and enjoying shutting down from work for a couple of days...
But, this week I am back!
My wife and I spent a few days back in our hometown on Long Island and went to grab a lunch at one of our favorite Italian spots, Brancinelli's... after all, we know that New York has the best Italian food!
As I was driving through the parking lot, an older man, probably in his 80s wanted to cross...
So, I stopped, waved him across, and he refused to cross in front of my car....
Next, he came up to my car, asked me to roll down the window and began to explain himself....
"Young man, you know most people today have no sense of courtesy.I come from a time where a woman was a woman and a man was a gentleman.
I appreciate you letting me go in front of you, but today, I always let the car go by since nobody pays attention to others anymore..."
Wow.
Powerful lesson.
It really got me thinking...
Is professionalism gone?
Is chivalry gone?
For many- I believe it is.
But, what if we can go back to these simple lessons...
Bring them into our teams...
Bring them into our homes...
Bring then into our Companies...
Holding doors...
Saying thank you..
Going the extra mile for others...
Listening rather than talking...
What if culture could be built on these timeless principles?
What if the success of a company and workforce could be built on these principles...
And just as I was pondering these things....
The Parking Lot Preacher, Jimmy, hit me with gold...
"You know, when there is darkness, always be the light."
"Be the light- and you will never have darkness."
And, he is right.
After lunch that day, I walked into a retail store and the energy was DEAD.
No music on. The greeter in the front of the store was on her phone. A totally dead environment.
Until, I walked in and said to myself: "Be the light"....
I walked in with a strong posture, stride, and disposition and with confidence said: HI.
That was it.
HI.
Everyone looked up.
Adjusted their defeated posture.
And greeted me back with a smile.
Immediate change in the room.
Darkness turned to light.
This is something I preach all the time to Companies and Teams.
You bring the energy to the room- do not wait for the energy to be in the room.
It works every single time.
So, as you get ready to hit December hard- and bring home victory- remember the words of Jimmy "The Parking Lot Preacher"...
BE THE LIGHT.
After he dropped those powerful verses on us...
He prayed over us and disappeared.
Powerful.
You have that kind of power as well...
Go use it.

COACH DANA CAVALEA
