Hope you had an awesome weekend!
This past weekend I took a golf lesson with a friend- instantly I looked like a much more acceptable golfer and my play improved.
A simple adjustment to my grip cleaned up my game dramatically.
Who would think!
It was not my swing, my club position, or the speed of my swing- but simply my grip.
A small tweak made a World of difference.
Which leads me into today's simple lesson...
How small tweaks can make a big difference...
Have you ever had a thought come into your mind that was dominant?
Maybe it is a thought that says:
I can never make this shot...
Or, I always struggle with ____________.
Or, this always happens to me.
Maybe it is a different variation of the above- but it is a dominant thought that hijacks your overall flow, being, essence, and chances for success.
The tactic that many use is to rid themselves of the thought is: IGNORE IT.
That is really called thought suppression.
But, here is the thing- it is very difficult to ignore a dominant thought.
This is why so many stay in the same position/ state for so long.
They are constantly at war with their dominant thought....
Should I start the business..... vs.
I can not start the business because of X,Y,Z reasons...
You see, in the case above, one thought cancels the other and you stay even, neutral, or in the same place.
What we need to do in order to overcome a dominant thought is to replace it or challenge it with a more dominant thought.
Let me give you an example similar to the above....
(Dominant Thought) = I can not start a business because of X,Y,Z...
(More Dominant Thought) = I have to start a business so I can finally live the life of freedom I desire that will allow me to pay for my kids schooling, travel the World, and live a full life of abundance.
Do you see the power of one vs. the other?
The more dominant thought allows you to cancel out the dominant thought....
I will give you a sports example specific to a hitter in baseball...
(Dominant Thought) =I never hit this pitcher well, I always struggle against him
(More Dominant Thought) = Today, I am going to have very competitive at-bats. I am going to ATTACK the first fastball I see and hammer it up the middle at the pitchers head.
Do you see the difference?
Now, the real question is what does one do to our poise vs. the other?
Well, the dominant thought keeps us in an average to negative state.
Where as the more dominant thought immediately puts us in a peak state of competitiveness.
It makes us offensive minded vs. defensive minded.
Our more dominant state allows us to be in the drivers seat, instead of in adjustment mode which prevents us from settling in and letting our talents and instincts take over.
My message to you is this: Never let you dominant thoughts take you over...
You must be constantly challenging your dominant thoughts with a more dominant thought...
It will keep you feeling very hungry, aggressive, and focused on what you CAN-DO vs. what you think you can not do.
Now, let's go attack today (dominant thought)!
