Hi Team...
Happy Monday!
It is GO time...
Time to hit the ground running and get your mind in attack mode for the week....
Yesterday, before my family came over for Easter, I went out to the golf course and played a few holes...
As I was swinging, a realized something: Practice Makes You Perfect...
Yes- you read that right.
It makes YOU perfect.
What I mean by that is this: When we practice, we feel more accomplished, prepared, and ready...
Like my client Randy says,"Competence leads to confidence."
So, the message is simple: When you practice things, you get better at them. When you get better at something, you want to do more of it.
What I find is that many people shy away from practice because they do not like failure...
In sports, we practice and fail everyday...
Our strongest skills and our weakest skills.
You can and do the same in business, your career, and in your life in general...
Meaning, you have to put yourself out there to compete, daily.
You must practice each day by challenging yourself.
For example, if you are not great at public speaking, the more you do it, the better you get.
If you are somebody who struggles at having conversations on a friction based topic- have more of those conversations and you will get better.
If you are somebody who always "plays it safe" because you do not want to fail- take on a little more rope.
You will get comfortable the more you are in the situation...
Being in that situation is the practice!
That is how you practice- by being in the situation!
Baptism by fire is what we call it in baseball- just jump right in and learn to swim!
Most do the same things, each day, with the same risk profile, and they wonder why growth is lagging or non-existent.
Whether you realize it or not- we as people love growth, progression, forward movement, and advancement...
So why would we shy away from it?
Instead, we must dig in.
For today, my ask of you is simple: Take a little more rope today than normal...
Challenge yourself on something...
Another client of mine, Scott K. was consistent doing 5-8minutes per day of high intensity exercise 7-days per week... now, he is doing 20, 30+ minutes because he challenged his norms.
He is practicing and getting better.
You can do the same and it works personally and professionally.
Dig into what you avoid, are scared about, or, are just flat out comfortable doing and challenge that status quo....
Status quo always leads to comfort and eventually makes you average :)
We do not want that!
We want greatness!
Let's go!
