Hi Team...

Happy Monday....

Another week... let's get this one rolling!

This weekend was quite exciting....

  • Long walks 6miles,
  • Peloton rides,
  • Watched Bruce Springsteens Western Stars Documentary & Spiderman 3
  • Did a few crossword puzzles
  • Talked with friends...
  • Did an instagram live....

So, even without really leaving the house... it was still a BALANCED and productive weekend....

How about you?

After all, these are times of adversity...

How did you fare?

Many of us are familiar with IQ, or intelligence quotient...

Over the last several years, we have even become familiar with EQ, or emotional quotient...

But are you familiar with AQ?

Your adversity quotient?

AQ was termed by Paul Stoltz who was a writer that found the higher your AQ score, the better your ability to deal with adversity.

He also found that a higher AQ score was able to demonstrate a persons success in life..

As those with higher scores typically had a better attitude, could handle mental stress, had a desire for lifelong learning, demonstrated higher levels of perseverance, and were much better in their responses to a changing environment...

Sounds like those with higher AQ's would do better right now.... especially with their "responses to a changed environment".....

Why is that though?

Why would they do better than others?

Well, the typical high performer would normally have a higher AQ....

Because, in order to be a high performer, you are constantly pushing boundaries...

You are usually finding yourself in situations that appear to be difficult, yet, the desire to overcome that difficulty is wha keeps the high performer moving forward... (desire for lifelong learning AND challenging experiences).....

So, what the high performer sees right now is an opportunity....

Many of the business leaders I am working with right now have used this time to:

  1. Lean out their business by finding areas they are running fat and heavy...
  2. Streamline their processes...
  3. Identify the most resilient streams of income...
  4. Reduce expenditures by reviewing all expenses with a fine tooth comb....
  5. Rate/ Evaluate team performance one individual at a time....

We can all do the above...

Even if you are not in business... where are you running fat at home?

Where are you putting your time and not getting a return?

Are their relationships in your life that are costing you more than they are exciting you?

Have you been moving yourself in the direction of your dreams, goals, calling?

These are questions that are usually answered in times of slow down and silence...

I was also reading an article this AM that talked about some of the great Companies that were born out of the 2008 recession....

Ready for the list?

UBER

SLACK

A few others were born out of others recessions....

IBM (1896)

G.E. (1890)

DISNEY (1923)

GENERAL MOTORS (1908)

You see, what we focus will determine what we are able to do during this time...

Many that I work with have committed to becoming their best, most high performing self...

We put them on a schedule....

They execute on it daily....

And as a result... they see improvement during this time....

These are people that are looking to drive their AQ even higher...

Bad Times = Get Better

Good Times = Get Better

It is a mentality...

It is an attitude...

It is a focus on becoming the best you that YOU can be...

It is possible...

Everyone around you needs strength....

When they see you working hard, focused, and committed... in turn you inspire them...
