When working with high performers, using my PRODAY system, there are 5 pillars that drive the system:
Mindset, Training, Fueling, Recovery & Influence.
We always start our seminars and coaching programs with a hyper-focus on MINDSET.
We all know how powerful the mind is, but do we truly understand it?
Understanding mindset is really about understanding how external factors can influence your internal environment. How you react to these factors determines your outcomes. That in two statements is MINDSET.
Simple.
Every action has a reaction. Positive or negative.
If you allow the stress of a deadline to influence your mental state, you will be turning a simple deadline into a "will I lose my job" conversation.
This will be followed by high stress, inhibition and stalling tactics. Physically, you will probably miss your training, eat high sugar foods and compromise your sleep. Then wonder why you not only missed the deadline, but also feel horrible.
Mindset drives all things. Mindset can make a small situation life threatening. Or a "big situation" small.
Mindset must be controlled in order to create better outcomes.
So how do we do it?
Being a big Comparative Chart person, I always create 3 columns:
1. What is the stressor/ external factor?
2. Why am I getting stressed over this?
3. Am I making more out of this situation than I have to and why? (this will always be FEAR as the why)
I find that when you break things down, write things down and then study your writing (which is really your feelings), you can then gain a greater understanding of your emotional profile that is leading you towards the negatives of stress, anxiety, overwhelm and paralysis.
Mariano Rivera once told me, "All situations are the same, big or small. We only make them big in our own minds. Then we actually believe it to be true when it is not."
Brilliant.
Keep things simple and basic. Sometimes you have to translate and interpret things for yourself at a more simple level so you can realize you are getting "nuts" over something that is not that big of a deal. In the end, you will get it done.
Keep your mindset clean and healthy at all costs. Manage your external factors well and you will see and feel tremendous freedom. Make that your goal. Screen and strain all your external factors. The mind must be a safe-zone.#mindsetlikeapro
