No way. This can't be true.
I have never been much of a calorie counter, because if you eat a diet that is 80% plant based, whole food focused, and limits white flour/sugar/ and starches.... you don't have to focus on calorie counting to stay lean.
The translation of this eating is 85% of your intake is coming from fruits and vegetables in a "raw" or "semi-cooked" state (steamed)... with 5% from nuts and seeds, and 10% of your diet coming from fish/ and lean meats.
If you eat like this, with homemade sauces and dressing, using product like honey, fresh maple syrup, fresh tomatoes/ diced tomatoes/ stewed, and vinegars (there are some great new stores with naturally infused vinegars for salads)... your caloric intake will remain relatively low, fiber intake high, sugars low, and most importantly, your nutrients will remain high.
Dr. Joel Fuhrman is a doctor based out of New Jersey specializing in weight-loss and health restoration- preaches the formula:
Low Calories + High Nutrients = Healthy Eating.
This is a great formula to stay lean... and will make you very aware of the foods you are eating.. as well as the "ingredients" within the foods you eat.
Let's talk Gluten-Free now.
Although your favorite crackers and pancake mixes and pizza crusts are "gluten-free".. have you ever looked at the calorie counts? Have you ever looked at the sugars? How many extra ingredients are in these foods after the "rice" flour? Negative ingredients can be stored/converted to fats.. and most importantly can be destructive the body causing the onset of diseases.. they are foreign substances..
That is the problem. Gluten-free foods eliminate gluten, but they also introduce the body to other synthetic ingredients that can cause the body gastro-intestinal distress, disease, and angst.. since they are not easily processed and utilized by the body.
If you were to become "gluten-free" by eliminating packaged products-- focusing more on eating more "plant-based" with lean meats/ fish, nuts and seeds... you would see greater results- faster.
Gluten-free is often seen as a "free-pass" to eating "anything" that has the Certified GF label.
This is the equivalent of the person that only buys cookies from Whole Foods because they think they are healthier; not considering the sugars because the sugar is organic.
These are all nutritional scams that many food companies, and "holistic" practitioners have adopted as the new way of eating to get "lean". Something I like to call having an "angle"...
The reality and PRO thought process is this:
Eat as many fruits and vegetables as you want, include nuts and seeds (1-2 handfuls a day), and grilled lean meats/fish that are free from marinades unless it is ground oranges, lemons, other natural rubs.
Reduce oil intake due to high fat content, and flood your body with nutrients.
For those that are on the juicing-revolution.. juice is ok.. as long as the sugars are under 10g. Remember though, juice is not a sub for real fruits and vegetables because the fibrous cellular exterior of the food is eliminated.
We send rockets to the moon, have created the internet, and are close to seeing a flying car... it is amazing to me that we are still "putzing" around with nutrition when it is very simple.
Stop looking for the short cuts.. get disciplined and change your palette by not eating "Crap"..#eatlikeapro
PS. You ever wonder why just cutting out bagels, bread, pasta, potatoes, and baked goods cause an immediate drop in weight? No sugar. No starchy carbs. It is really that simple.. no short cuts.. you body prefer clean eating.. that is why it reacts positively when you eliminate that junk.
*this does not apply 100% to those with diagnosed celiacs
