Hi Team....
I hope you had an awesome Independence Day Weekend!
I know that I did.....
Got my workouts in... went to see my brother and his family in Pennsylvania....
Came home to a litter of piglets, 11 to be exact! (wild stuff- will share more)....
But, as you know, when The Coach has some time off from Coaching- the brain starts running.....
And one topic I was thinking about was living in a state of comfort.
It is interesting how the thing we chase, comfort, is also the thing that can knock us out of the game.
Comfort can leave us in a position of extreme vulnerability and danger- especially as high performers.
Now, does that mean you should live in a chronic state of anxiety and panic? No.
It does mean you should always be pursuing a position of discomfort with faith and optimism.
Hear me out....
You have goals. I have goals.
You have dreams. I have dreams. (keep them front and center- and if they get cloudy, or are cloudy, take some time today to clear the fog)....
With that said, we must take steps towards them each day.
Whether we achieve them or not is determined by our willingness to embrace a state that we may not enjoy being in.
Here is the thing....
Our goals and dreams require us to get into a place of discomfort in order to achieve them.
Signing a lease = discomfort.
Going public with a product you have been working on = discomfort.
Offering a new service to the market = discomfort.
Launching an online store = discomfort.
First day as an executive = discomfort.
Making a public speech = discomfort.
Doing the biggest deal of your life = discomfort.
Doing your first deal = discomfort.
Losing money at your business and figuring out how to win again = discomfort.
Got it?
Above are all situations that winners find themselves in and all come with a time of discomfort.
I look at it like this: Success at anything is really just a volley between comfort and discomfort.
Remember, we are not just looking to be uncomfortable for the hell of it- we have to utilize strategic discomfort as a tool.
Meaning, as I get X- going, I will uncomfortable...
Then, we will stabilize.
As we pursue our next round of growth, we will embrace discomfort again.
By the way, this is what I want you to realize: This is how it works!
There is no way around this formula.
Doing anything for the first time will lead to discomfort- so embrace it.
Get comfortable with it.
In my office at Yankee Stadium, I had a sign that said: GET COMFORTABLE WITH THE UNCOMFORTABLE.
That is a truth.
GO live your life by it and I will do the same!
Now- let's go out and WIN today!!
And, since it is July 6th- special birthday shout out to my Mom!
And happy birthday to the leader of the 100-year old Arkay Packaging, Mitchell Kaneff!
Happy Birthday!!!
Enjoy winning!
