Hi Team...

A few weeks ago I wrote about "abundance"....

What does the word mean?

By definition it means this: 

  1. A great or plentiful amount.
  2. The condition of being in rich supply.
  3. Degree of plentifulness.

Ah- so having enough...

And, if you have enough, you are living in abundance...

What is enough?

Well, according to Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, when our Physiological Needs are taken care of, well, we have enough.

Those physiological needs are: 

These are the basics- and once we have these, well, we have abundance.

But why is this not the case for so many today?

Well, for many, it is because these needs have never been in scarcity. Today, the majority of us in the US have these and always have. 

So we never see them as abundance, we see them as expectation. As things we are entitled to.

But what is happening now, and I see this through coaching is that our desire to climb up the pyramid of needs, as portrayed by Maslow is moving us so far from the base of the pyramid (physiological needs) that we are trying to run to the top of the pyramid which is self-actualization, or meeting ones full potential that we are skipping steps.

Many today so badly want to maximize their full potential that they are:

  • Compromising their sleep (base of the pyramid, physiological need) in the pursuit of self-actualization, maximization, and for the desire of accomplishment
  • Not feeling safe- (based on news reports, COVID, violence, economical and political volatility, etc.- safety and security are actually step 2 of the pyramid, just above physiological needs)
  • Lacking true connection due to the current times, mandates, more social media and screen usage (which, based on step 3 of the pyramid all can compromise loving relationships, friendships, and true connection. Today, we have many "fake" friends on social media that we know- but do not truly connect with)
  • Then, lastly, very few feel accomplished today- they always feel like they can do more and should be doing more or are not doing enough- or being/ becoming enough. (this is step 4 of the pyramid- self-esteem needs- "feeling of accomplishment"- if we never feel accomplished, we never feel good about ourselves.

This is telling.

The above shows why so many struggle to get to the top- or to the point of self-actualization where potential can not only be met, but maximized!

Very powerful.

If we have steps on the pyramid of needs that we are stepping over and not improving on or acknowledging, well, we will feel vacancy in our life, in our mind, in our overall day to day.

You know, I am fascinated by models that have been created like Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs because it just makes sense...

And when we study models like this and don't just look at them as some psychology creation and instead choose to use them to maximize performance- it can truly be a game changer.

SO, when you analyze and study your life- where are you missing?

What step are you missing on the pyramid that needs work- or, needs you to revisit and establish more certainty and strength around?

If you are striving to MAXIMIZE potential and self-actualize but are missing the pre-requisite steps, any of them, you will cost yourself potential.

And, if you do skip steps, you will cost yourself abundance.

Abundance begins by making sure your pyramid is tight, sequenced, and is fully accounted for!

Got it?

Now- that may be too deep for some of you, but, who cares!

Get deep!

It is the root and home of the answer in which you seek!
