Hope you guys had a great July 4th week/ weekend!
I spent the time with my family on Long Island..celebrating my mom's birthday,.. and have been putting some final touches on my book!
So, after indulging in some BBQ and holiday delicacies...
I started thinking about food combinations...
Have you ever wondered why you feel better when you eat certain foods vs. others?
Now, we all know if we eat ice cream, chips, high sugar/ salt foods our chances of feeling poorly goes way up!
But, I am talking about when you combine "good" foods and still feel "not that great"....
Example: Steak + Potatoes + Vegetables....
That combination, where you pair a protein with a starch is what really can get you... especially when you are not engaging in high levels of calorie burning activity just before the feeding!
If you were able to combine STEAK + VEGETABLES as your meal, you would feel much better from a digestive standpoint.. especially if you are not salting that steak and salting/ buttering the vegetables!
Another way to feel great is to take the VEGETABLES + STARCH (Rice, Potato, Cous Cous )
They body likes simplicity when it comes to digestion... and your "pairings" can really determine truly how you feel...
So to break it down.. let's keep it simple:
PROTEIN + VEGETABLE or FRUIT = GREAT
VEGETABLE + FRUIT + STARCH = GREAT
PROTEIN + STARCH = NOT GREAT
PROTEIN + STARCH + FRUIT/ VEGETABLE = NOT GREAT
Again, it is not that these foods should be considered good vs. bad, but the "pairings" could really make it tough on your digestion...
And, if you are going to eat more "starch" based... make sure your activity is up for the day.. or it is early in the day... and/ or just after a workout....
This is a great way to eat to improve your overall performance...
Keep your meals simple with few ingredients and pair accordingly!
