Hey Team...

Hope your week is off to a great start....

This is a recovery week for me....

That does not mean "not working"... but working in a different way...

I am spending the rest of the week on the West Coast...focusing on health, fitness, relaxation, planning, and breaking my routines....

What? 

Breaking routines?

Yup.

You ever take the same roads to work every single day?

Do you find yourself eating at the same places.. ordering the same things every breakfast, lunch, and dinner?

Are you such a creature of habit, that if you were a fugitive you wouldn't be able to keep those hunting you guessing for more than a few hours?

Well listen... 

Habits are great...

Routines are great...

But they can also make you less creative, less worldly and observant, and less of a big thinker....

And when you are in the Coaching, Writing, Speaking, and Human Innovation Business like me... mundane, repeating thoughts are not a good thing.....

So, I breakout of the day to day by changing it up....

But for so many, "they can't"....

At least that is what they tell themselves...

They are needed. The business, show, or team can not run without them...

Taking a long weekend? A vacation? What?

But, if I leave for too long (more than 24hrs.) the place will suffer because I am not there...

It is as if all those who show up each day are just going to forget to come in... and boom, there goes the house!

This can not be further from the truth...

I call this the Entrepreneurial Squeeze... yet today, it is not just Entrepreneurs who face it...

For many of the clients I have Coached over the years... I spend much of my time, and theirs, teaching them about goal posts... and teaching them how to separate from the vortex of their work and business...

It sucks them in. It becomes their exclusive religion...

They lose other interests outside of work and family....

They have no personal time..

They have no time to focus on their own health, wellness, and sanity....

And ultimately, they end up hating their work, most of the people that work there, and they end up not feeling worthy of a day off because they know nothing else..but...WORK.

That becomes their why...

It is why they do what they do...

And.. all their actions involving work both during the workday, after the workday, and on the weekends are all justified... "because their work is very important"...

Which it is...

But it can not own you....

Ok, I will let it own you during the first few years of a start-up... I get it... the business needs "lift"... but after that, or after your first few years on the job... it is time to "get a life"....

The business is not going anywhere... but if you keep up this obsessive behavior... you may be going somewhere..and it won't be good....

So, today's message is dedicated to the high performing, type-A, high achievers out there that need permission to take a 'chill pill"....

It can be a mid-week day off to catch up....

It can be a wrap around weekend....

Or, it can be a whole week off if you really need it....

And, what is so great about this is that you will feel amazing when you get back to work....

Excited. Rejuvenated. Ready to do some damage!

But if you don't, it may be time to reconsider what you are doing....

Got it.

Breakout.

Get out of the Squeeze/ Vice Grips....

By the way, they were self applied.
